Flowers at all times have been one of the main gifts for women. And how to make the bouquet memorized for a long time? A rose of metal for this purpose is perfect. Yes, and such a flower will delight its owner much longer than usual.
A metal rose is not an easy craft. Its creation requires special tools and materials, increased security measures and a specially equipped workplace. But then the result obtained at the end of the work will exceed all expectations.
We bring to your attention a master class entitled "A rose made of metal with your own hands." Photos are attached to each stage.
List of tools and materials
Tools for making a metal rose from metal:
- Bulgarian;
- angle grinder;
- two types of discs for cars - grinding and cutting;
- drill;
- drills for working with metal with a diameter of up to a centimeter;
- gas warmer;
- pliers, round-nose pliers, long-nose pliers;
- pliers;
- nippers;
- file;
- anvil;
- hammer;
- felt-tip pen;
- welding machine.
The necessary materials for the manufacture of such crafts as a rose from metal, with your own hands (dimensions are given for a particular master class):
- a metal rod with a diameter of about 8-12 mm (the stem of our rose is made of it);
- sheet metal, it is better to take a thickness of half a centimeter (also automotive, for example, from the hood);
- motor oil unprocessed, about 400 grams.
DIY metal rose: drawings of petals
Cut a minimum of four squares of 10x10 cm from a metal sheet; to give the rose splendor, prepare a larger number of squares.
On the squares, draw rose petals, and on one of them draw a figure similar to a wind rose. This square will serve as a blank for the sepals of our roses. To make the product look more natural, do not try to achieve perfect symmetry.
Using a grinder or grinder, cut the petals of our rose, but do not cut it to the end, i.e. not to the center, as in the photo.
Now we need to flatten the ends of the blanks of rose petals, sepals and leaves of the stem. For this we need an anvil and a hammer. Light hammer blows stomp the tips of the workpieces. After that, using the back of the hammer, apply the texture of the leaves. It is enough to do this on the one hand.
If you need to make a metal rod shorter, use a grinder. Usually the length of the stem is from 40 to 50 centimeters. But at will it can be done more or less.
Next, you need to make holes for the stem in the blanks of the petals that we cut. This can be done in two ways - by drilling or welding.
Option 1 - work with a drill
Drill a hole in the center clearly. Its size should be equal to the diameter of the metal rod, which serves as the stem. Remember that the rod should fit snugly into the drilled hole. So it will be easier to weld. If the diameter of the selected stem did not match the size of the hole (it turned out to be slightly smaller), then just drill a few more holes nearby so that they join into one that will be of the desired diameter.
Option 2 - work with the welding machine
Holding the electrode to the middle of the petal, set the arc on fire. Press the electrode about three millimeters thick into the metal, penetrating it through. The current value must be set to 100 A. The hole will be burned easily, so be careful not to make it larger than the diameter of the legs of the rose.
In order to properly weld and not lose the strength of our design, it is better to make the holes not perfectly round, since at least 50% contact is necessary. To control the process, from time to time, attach the stem to the hole.
Do-it-yourself metal rose: pattern for shaping petals
From one end of the rod (rose legs), retreat a couple of centimeters and put on it a blank of petals. Each new layer must be positioned so that they form a cross. Attach each ball in turn by welding. Stem is better to melt better than petals, as their metal burns out very quickly. Bend the lower petals down.
Now you can begin to work on giving the petals a form:
- turn on the gas heating pad and use it to heat even petals;
- using pliers or round-nose pliers, bend two central petals inward;
- bend the remaining ones around the first two;
- when all the petals are connected, slightly bend the edges of each.
Leaves for roses
The rose will not be complete if you do not attach leaflets to it.
Operating procedure:
- Draw a layout of the leaves on a sheet of metal.
- Cut leaves using a grinder.
- Make small cuts along the outline of each sheet.
- Give them a natural, slightly wavy shape.
- Weld the finished leaves to the stem.
The metal rose is ready. Now it can be decorated with spikes, which are also cut in the form of triangles from a sheet of metal and welded to the stem.
Anticorrosion treatment
So that the metal work does not deteriorate over time, it must be treated with an anticorrosive substance. It can be varnish, spraying, paint.
Another option is motor oil. Before applying it, the rose must be heated. All details of the craft should be treated with oil, after which the flower is again exposed to fire in order to remove the excess.
Remember that all work is best done either outdoors or in a specially equipped room that is well ventilated. And most importantly - do not forget about safety when working with metal.
