The republic is almost completely covered by different hills. These are mainly huge mountain systems, occupying 93 percent of the republic. By the way, almost half of the country is located at an altitude of more than three thousand meters above sea level.
Fire ice in the mountains of Tajikistan
The high mountains of Tajikistan have many glaciers. Their total area is almost nine thousand kilometers. Glaciers occupy six percent of the total area of the republic. Snow at high altitude is gradually rammed under its own weight and becomes firn ice. They differ from ordinary coarse grains. Over time, they become denser and large and small glaciers form.
Mountains of Mogoltau and Kuraminsky ridge
The mountains of Mogoltau and the Kuramin Range are located in the north of Tajikistan. And they enter the massif of the western Tien Shan. Gissar Mountains

Pamir

Central to the Pamir Mountains is the ridge of the Academy of Sciences. Its height is 5757 meters. And the pass is at the level of Mont Blanc - the highest peak of the Alps. The highest peak of the Academy of Sciences is Ismoil Somoni. This is the highest mountain in Tajikistan, reaching 7495 meters.
The history of the Pamir peak is very interesting. At first he was named after Stalin. This happened in 1931. Then, in 1961, it was renamed the peak of Communism. And in 1999 he received the name Ismoil Somoni. Several small glaciers flow down from it. They merge with their big "brother" called Garmo.
But the Pamir Mountains are not only remarkable for this . Tajikistan has another high peak - Korzhenevsky peak. Its height reaches 7105 meters. In the west, the Pamir is striking in its variety of surfaces. The foot of the mountains is located at an altitude of 1700 to 1800 meters above sea level. In the north, the mountain range is surrounded by the Zaalaysky ridge with a length of 95 kilometers. Through the Kizylart pass with a height of 4280 meters, the highest mountain highway passes.
Ferghana Valley

The highlands are located 120 kilometers from the city of Khujand. This territory is famous for its extraordinary and majestic beauty of untouched nature. The peaks of the ridge sometimes reach more than 5000 meters. The mountains consist of dense granite with cracks and protrusions. The gorges are very beautiful and easily accessible. On them you can travel on horseback.
Turkestan Range
The Turkestan ridge is located between the Zarafshan and Ferghana valleys. It extends two hundred kilometers. In the north it gradually decreases and ends with the Nuratau mountains. The slopes of Turkestan are strikingly different from south and north. One of them is completely snow-white, and on the other snow lies only at a level of from 3,500 to 4,000 meters. Glaciers, the largest of which is the twenty-meter Rama, are located only in the eastern part.
Fann mountains, or Shakhristan pass
Shahristan Pass 3351 meters high has another name. These are the same Fan Mountains. Tajikistan can rightfully be proud of its amazing mountain peaks. The Fan Mountains are of great height and complexity. In common people they are called "warm."
This name was given to the mountains for the mild climate, which is absolutely not characteristic of the highlands. The top of the Shakhristan pass, Chimtarg, reaches 5495 meters. The Fan Mountains is one of the most visited places in Tajikistan. Here is the largest natural reservoir in northern Tajikistan - Iskanderkul Lake.
One of the attractions of the mountains of Tajikistan - mineral springs, both hot and cold. They have a different degree of mineralization, which allowed the country to master the sanatorium-resort direction in the tourism industry. More than two hundred mineral springs with resort areas organized on their basis help to treat cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, genitourinary and other diseases.
