Thor's helmet using papier-mâché technique

In anticipation of preparations for the New Year holidays, the task of each parent is to create an original carnival costume for their child. Modern children want superhero costumes, which is also the Scandinavian thunder god Thor. If it is easy to sew the costume itself, then the helmet of Thor can introduce difficulties. You need to do it yourself.

What a helmet can be made of

The main thing is to find a sketch of the right helmet. The headpiece of the thunder god is an ordinary helmet, where on the sides there are peculiar protrusions that resemble wings. Next, it is important to pay attention to detail. In front, a pattern is formed that resembles a triangle without one side. An additional decoration will be a variety of ledges or transitions.

paper base

Making Thor's helmet using the papier-mâché technique:

  1. Tear a newspaper into small pieces and in a separate pile - white paper.
  2. First you need to take pieces of white paper, dip in water, which is poured into a ceramic container, and lay on the ball.
  3. Thus, you need to lay out one layer. Wait until the pulp dries. Approximately 2 hours are needed.
  4. The paper is opened with a thin layer of glue and again left to dry.
  5. The next step will be the application of newsprint soaked in water. It is necessary to form several layers.
  6. Leave to dry and glue again.
  7. Spread two layers of white paper. From it, bulges and reliefs are formed, which are obtained due to the spreading of several layers of cellulose.
  8. Leave to dry for a day.
  9. The wings, which should protrude above the helmet and partially cover the face, can be cut out of cardboard.
  10. When the base of the helmet is dry, you need to burst the ball and cut the edges with scissors. Gently recreate the relief on the headdress using an office knife.
  11. The wings are attached to the sides with the help of a thread and a needle.

When the do-it-yourself helmet of Thor is already ready, you need to start finishing. Coat the base with paint. At the base of the relief, cover the paper with sparkles, but first you need to outline these folds with gray gouache.
