New Year is the most magical holiday. It is on this night that we wait for Santa Claus, make wishes and exchange gifts. So why not go on this holiday to a masquerade or arrange a costume evening on your own? After all, carnival costumes and New Year's masks with their own hands are very easy to do.

What are carnival masks

DIY Christmas masks
A carnival mask can cover the entire face or half of it, be fixed on the head or have a wand for carrying in hands. These accessories are flat and convex, as for design - everything depends entirely on the imagination of the manufacturer.

Simple Christmas masks for children can be made of cardboard, colored paper, foil and other materials. As a template, you can use the part from the old carnival costume, or you can find a stencil.

Another option is to measure the face of the model and arbitrarily draw your own shape. In order for the mask to hold firmly to the head, an elastic band or ties should be attached to it.

Involve your kids in the process of making new clothes. You can trust the smallest to color the cardboard and stick elements from colored paper.

In order to make the New Year’s masks, made with your own hands, more festive and elegant, use sparkles, rhinestones and other decorative elements.

In the mask covering the entire face, you can make a cut for the mouth or draw lips and a smile of any shape.

If you find the oval products repeating the shape of the face and head boring, you can make a mask with protruding ears or an original “hairstyle”. If desired, you can supplement it with strands of artificial hair or feathers. If the carnival accessory is made in order to complement the image, and not change beyond recognition, you can stop at the mini-mask, covering only the eye area like glasses. Such Christmas masks with their own hands can be made of fabric, you can cover the base with cardboard material, embroider with beads and beads. Of course, they will appeal not only to children, but also to adults.

DIY Venetian Christmas masks

Masks are New Year
Traditional Venetian masks with their relief repeat the face of the owner. They look especially impressive. To make such a mask, you need to make a papier-mâché mold; for this, apply petroleum jelly on the face and apply several layers of tissue paper. Paper towels or napkins are best suited because of their thickness and type of embossing. The next layer is plaster.

It is more convenient to use bandages soaked in this material. Gypsum quickly hardens and has a low weight, use exclusively medical powder so that New Year's masks are safe for health. Once the layer has acquired sufficient strength, remove the mask from the face and leave to dry until completely hardened. Irregularities must be carefully sanded. If in some places gypsum is not enough, the shape is too fragile, add another layer and dry, if necessary, repeat to the desired thickness. After that, the mask can be painted, varnished and glued decorative elements.
