One of the oldest settlements in Russia is Rostov the Great, one of the eight main cities of the famous Golden Ring route. The significant past of the region determined its saturation with the most ancient architectural, cultural and historical monuments. Sights of the Rostov region have become classics of Russian and world art.
Monuments of archeology
The Rostov Kremlin, built in the 17th century as the residence of the bishops of the Rostov-Yaroslavl diocese, is considered the most famous monument of the region. It is part of an architectural complex called the Bishop's House. The Kremlin is considered a particularly valuable object of cultural heritage of the peoples of the Russian Federation. It was within its walls that the episodes of the legendary comedy “Ivan Vasilievich Changes the Profession” were filmed.

The achievement of world-class culture is the wooden and stone buildings of Rostov, belonging to the XVIII-XX centuries, as well as the famous Rostov belfry, each of the 13 bells of which sounds in a special way. Their harmonious chord for many centuries was considered the standard. Rostov ringing was recorded by notes by Archpriest Aristarch of Israel, a famous Campanologist of the XIX century, which ensured their safety. The bells of ancient Rostov fell silent in 1928, but in the 60s of the last century, the old city ringer was able to revive the bells.
No less valuable are such sights of the Rostov region as Avraamiev Epiphany Monastery and Spaso-Yakovlevsky monastery, architectural the ensemble of which, due to the mixing of different styles, seems like a fabulous miracle city, harmoniously flowing into the lakeside landscape.
Cities of the Rostov region also demonstrate a number of interesting monuments of architecture and history. Noteworthy is the main attraction of Novocherkassk - the Ascension Cathedral, which was founded in 1805 at the foundation of the city. Many unique monuments of military-engineering art can be seen after visiting Azov. The St. Nicholas Church in Taganrog is interesting, built, according to legend, at the place where the tent of Peter the Great was set up, which landed on Cape Taganiy Rog in July 1696 together with the Cossacks to build a fortress, and later on - a military parking harbor Navy of Russia.
Don Troy
Sights of the Rostov region are unique and priceless. Many local and alien ancient tribes left their traces in the Don region. So, on the outskirts of modern Rostov-on-Don in the 50s of the last century, the ruins of the most ancient in Eastern Europe Liventsovskaya fortress were discovered. Historians called this discovery a world sensation. The find dates back to the 17th century BC. Liventsovskaya fortress was erected by tribes of the North Caucasian catacomb culture. Excavations were carried out on the territory of the former structure. The archaeological complex of 8 hectares is called the Don Troy. Settlements of people were found here, from the Copper-Stone Age to the Middle Ages, Scythian settlements with burials. Unfortunately, the fortress is on the verge of complete destruction. In January 2014, entrepreneur A. Isakov presented a project aimed at saving a historical monument: they want to make the Liventsov fortress a center of archaeological tourism. After all, this is the only fortress in Europe of the Bronze Age, which is several hundred years older than the legendary Troy, sung by Homer.
