The word "battle" has a lot of meanings. Surely many people know what a battle is. But hardly everyone realizes that this word has not one, but several meanings.
Battles: what is it
Each dictionary gives slightly different explanations for what a battle is. For example, Ozhegov’s explanatory dictionary gives two meanings:
- noisy quarrel;
- battle, battle.
Of course, these are slightly unrelated entities, but it is worth looking at the other side. In the family, the clarification of relations between spouses has several levels: verbal skirmish, scandal, noisy quarrel. The second value relates to hostilities. It has not only modern, but also historical significance. Battles are fights without the use of modern weapons. The term “battalion” is associated with the appearance of the word “battalion”. As you know, a battalion is an infantry division of the army. In modern battles, of course, the infantry value is slightly lower than before.
The dictionary of Efremova T.V. also states what battle is. The list of values is slightly wider:
- battle;
- sports matches, competitions;
- a dispute in the family.
Of course, not every sports match can be called a battle. The fight should be very intense, with equal chances of victory.
Sea battles
In the context of events at sea, we can talk about the battle as a military event. Fights on the seas took place in antiquity. What is battle, was fully felt by the inhabitants of Ancient Carthage during the war with Ancient Rome in the 1st century BC. e. Throughout the entire period of world history, a lot of warships as a result of injuries sustained in battles were sunk. Especially the topic of ships sunk as a result of battles was relevant during the First and Second World Wars. The merit of the navy in the victory of the USSR army over fascist Germany is also great.
Conclusion
Battles in our lives occur every day. The main thing is that there should be no military. Let's all be in favor of as many battles as possible, such as, for example, the Europa League match Dynamo (Kiev) - Everton (Liverpool).
