For real tsumi-kanzashi, only natural silk is used, but pieces of any kind of fabric are allowed on it. Mostly used are satin ribbons, crepe satin, organza and nylon. Satin crepe has a wide color gamut, and therefore finding the necessary shade is not difficult. The squares are cut to the right size, so there are no problems with the petals of different sizes and the same color.

Crepe satin is soft, round petals will be softer, it is easier to give it any shape. This material is not particularly suitable for sharp petals, the workpiece will have to be ironed when folding. But it all depends on the desired shape of the product. Another minus is that crepe satin turns black when burned, there will be problems with light shades, so if you decide to make a kanzashi flower in a light shade, then this material is better not to use.

Organza during reflow does not change its color and melts well. But it crumbles and easily deforms, it is necessary to handle this fabric very carefully. Kapron, like organza, melts perfectly. However, there is one difference: it practically does not deform and does not crumble. Working with him is simple and easy, but he is quite tough, the round-shaped nylon petals will look somehow awkward, the kanzashi flower will turn out to be plain. But for products with sharp edges, it will be great.

The satin ribbon is scorched well, practically does not deform, it is very easy to cut into small squares. Softer than kapron, but tougher than crepe satin. She is often used by craftswomen to make a flower using the kanzashi technique. The difficulty will only be the search for the desired shade, in particular one color and different widths.

Experts advise starting to make a kanzashi flower with a 5 cm wide satin ribbon. Depending on the width of the ribbon, the size of the petal is determined, and the larger it is, the easier it will be to work with it. Of course, you can use any other fabric, but the main thing is that it is not particularly loose. Supplements - accessories, beads, beads, rhinestones, sequins - are added to taste.

It is necessary to stock up with a needle with thread, scissors, tweezers (you need a long tweezers having a long clamping area at the ends). Suitable medical - purchased at a pharmacy, sewing - in stores for needlework. A pen, a tailor's pencil or a bar of soap and a ruler are necessary for marking on fabric. A candle for burning edges, glue and pins, as well as, of course, kanzashi color schemes. Before you begin, prepare all the necessary accessories.

To make an original and beautiful kanzashi flower, use rice glue. It is not difficult to prepare it, but it will dry for a very long time, besides it would be nice to have a little skill in handling this glue. When working, maximum accuracy and precision of movements are required, only then the kanzashi flower will acquire the desired shape.

To add rigidity to the product, you can use hair spray. Over time, stiffness passes, but to fix the form during the assembly process, this tool will be a great helper. When using varnish, it is best to try it on a loose piece of fabric first, as some materials may change color. When melted, natural fabrics burn, but do not melt at all. When using a candle, it is better to scorch the fabric where the flame is orange, that is, closer to the base, but in any case it all depends on the choice of fabric.
