In the sixties of the XX century, one of the largest reservoirs in Russia appeared as a result of the construction of a dam during the construction of a hydroelectric power station. It was located on the Kama River. The Votkinsk reservoir (map below) is located on the territory of the Republic of Udmurtia (the city of Votkinsk) and the Perm Territory, near the settlements of Tchaikovsky, Krasnokamsk, Osa and Okhansk.
The reservoir was formed in the interests of maintaining the economy of two large regions of the country. Today it is used to develop energy, expand the use of water transport, regulate runoff by season, as well as tourism, hunting and fishing.
Short description of the reservoir
The Votkinsk reservoir is quite large. Its area is 1120 km. sq., length - 365 km. As for the depth, the average does not exceed 8 m, but there are places where this indicator is almost 28 m. The width of the reservoir varies throughout its entire length, the largest distance to the opposite coasts is 9 km.
These characteristics allow the use of a reservoir for shipping. Thus, bilateral shipping routes are organized, which significantly reduces the distance from Perm to the lower Kama.
Natural features
The nature of the territories occupied by the reservoir is very diverse. On its shores stretch mixed and coniferous forests, rich in their resources. The waters of the reservoir itself are famous for the variety of river fish, in addition, 57 small rivers flow into it, which makes this place attractive for recreation. Fishing is famous in these parts of the world. Votkinsk reservoir has become a "home" for more than 35 species of fish. This is bream, roach, sabrefish. There are also larger representatives - pike, catfish, etc.
What awaits tourists?
On the banks of the Votkinsk reservoir there are many tourist centers. In the winter season, vacationers can entertain themselves with ice skating and skiing, and this is also the best time for lovers of winter fishing. In summer, the entertainment sector is more diverse, ATVs, boats and catamarans, as well as horseback riding, cycling and hiking in the vicinity are offered to the attention of tourists. The local forests surrounding the Votkinsk reservoir are striking in their beauty and delight with a variety of berries and mushrooms. Every year, a sailing regatta for the Kama Cup is held in the water area. Some places where quite high temperatures are observed in summer attract beach lovers.
At the moment, the construction of new facilities is ongoing in the reservoir, both for vacationers and for those wishing to undergo sanatorium treatment.
From the Perm Territory in the area of the city of Tchaikovsk there are five recreation centers. The Votkinsk reservoir is quite deep, so boat rental services, sailing boats, motor ships and yachts are offered here. This place is also suitable for a beach holiday. Nearby are protected forest areas: Carpenter and Vekoshinka. They represent thousands of hectares of forest with a diverse landscape, rich in berries and mushrooms.
