LED Floodlights: classification, description, application

Recently, when illuminating the facades of buildings, tunnels and protected areas, to illuminate pools and fountains, you can increasingly meet such lighting devices as LED floodlights. Why are they gaining so much popularity? What are their advantages and disadvantages? In the article we will try to answer these questions.

led floodlights

LED floodlights are able to work in any weather conditions: in heat and frost, under snow and rain; they are resistant to mechanical damage: shock and fall; able to work for many years with minimal power consumption. In the modern world, the main item of expenditure is the cost of electricity. Due to the low consumption of electric current, LED floodlights have gained immense popularity: now there is no need to deny yourself the illumination of a personal plot, warehouse, industrial territories. You can implement any bold solutions for lighting a home, garage, shop windows or store signs.

Consider the advantages and disadvantages of spotlights with LED lamps.

The advantages of such products include:

  • low energy consumption, 10 times lower than that of incandescent lamps, three times lower than that of energy-saving fluorescent lamps;
  • incredibly long service life - 11 years of continuous operation;
  • lack of mercury, which makes these lamps environmentally friendly.

The disadvantages include:

  • high price;
  • the manufacturer claims a life of 11 years, but the warranty period does not exceed five years - this is due to the aging (degradation) of the LEDs, at first they lose sharpness, and then completely go out;
  • To increase the operating life, it is necessary to use cooling systems and power supplies that protect the spotlight from voltage surges, which greatly increases the cost of such devices.

And what are LED spotlights? These devices are lighting equipment, they consist of a voltage converter, a reflector, a heavy-duty LED lamp, an external radiator that provides heat dissipation.

LED Floodlights are classified according to the following criteria:

  • according to the level of protection there are: IP 65 - external use, IP 44 - internal use, IP 68 - underwater, IP 67 - ground;
  • by appointment: specialized (for the army - search, signal, concert, laser and others) and general use;
  • by color (there are blue, red, yellow, green, white);
  • by configuration (with a square case, rectangular, linear, round);
  • voltage (12 V, 24 V, 220 V).

LED spotlight with sensor
There is a modification - an LED spotlight with a sensor. They belong to short-range spotlights, they are used to illuminate given territories. They are interesting in that they do not burn constantly, but turn on only when people, animals, objects appear in their zone of activity and go out after a certain period of time. This is due to an integrated sensor that responds to movement. This mode of operation provides additional energy savings and increases the life of the device.
