Ribbon embroidery - an elegant technique for creating three-dimensional paintings

Since ancient times (even in Ancient Rome), women have loved to adorn themselves with narrow, bright strips of fabric. The girls wove them into their hair, fastened them to dresses and other clothes. Much later, in the Middle Ages, in Italy and England, not only women's dresses, but also elements of the home interior were trimmed with fabric stripes. Canopies and curtains decorated with narrow ribbons looked very elegant. But the greatest love for colored ribbons was distinguished by the French. They created large textile factories that produced exquisite silk ribbons and braid. Therefore, it is safe to say that embroidery with ribbons originated in France.

Few know that King Louis XV was a great lover of this type of needlework, often with his own hands he created masterpieces. It was in the era of his reign that the band first began to be used as an embroidered decoration on the ball gown of every secular fashionista.

Currently, embroidery with satin ribbons has not lost its popularity at all. It still enjoys the love of needlewomen. Pillows and tapestries embroidered with flowers are especially beautiful. For beginners, embroidering with ribbons can be a fascinating hobby. The thing is that this technique does not have any complicated tricks. It is based on several simple stitches, having mastered which, you can begin to create your own unique masterpieces. Another undoubted plus is that you do not need to have some kind of strict pattern for embroidery, you can draw it yourself, with a little creativity and imagination. So, consider the main stitches used in embroidery ribbons:

1. The first main seam is called "forward with a needle." It is the most commonly used. It is done very simply. It is necessary to introduce a needle with a tape threaded into it from the wrong side to the front part. Next, measure the stitch and re-enter it, now from the front to the wrong side. Again, make a stitch and again bring the needle to the front side. For women familiar with sewing, this seam is better known as a seam.

2. For embroidery of flowers and petals, a seam โ€œforward with a volume needleโ€ is used. The technique of its implementation is similar to the previous one with one difference, which consists in the fact that under the stitches, to give them splendor, a needle or a thick needle is placed. On the wrong side, the stitches do not tighten.

3. Embroidery with ribbons primarily means beautiful three-dimensional figures. They are made with a very original spider web stitch. To create it, simple threads are used in tone to the main tape. First, five or seven stitches are sewn so that they come out of one center. It looks like a sun or snowflakes. Then, from the wrong side in the center, a needle with a threaded tape is removed and they begin to alternately pull it through the "rays" in a spiral. The tape is stretched in turn, then above the stitch, then below it. So that the element turns out to be voluminous, the ribbon is twisted.
