Indeed, if an attic toy is made with one's own hands, then it will not only decorate the interior, create a cozy atmosphere in the house, become a beloved friend of the baby, but can be a wonderful gift for a loved one for the holiday.

There is such a legend. In one poor family once lived a little girl. She had only one soft toy, and even that homemade one. From the old rags her mother sewed for her daughter. But despite this, the girl loved her toy very much.
However, such a misfortune happened: waiting for mother to be freed from work, the baby was sitting in the attic of the coffee factory, which also served as a warehouse. It just so happened that the baby forgot her favorite toy ... Bitterly she cried about the loss, but there was nothing to be done: her mother quit this factory after that.
And only a few years later the toy again came to its mistress. Over the years spent in the attic, the doll absorbed the amazing smells of coffee, cinnamon, vanilla. Of course, she didn’t matter either before parting, because my mother sewed a toy from a fabric that was no longer new. And now she even after washing remained a persistent brownish tint.
Modern attic toy
Now it’s hard to say where in this story is true and where is fiction. But the craftswomen, whom she liked, with pleasure began to make fragrant soft toys themselves. Today they are already sewn from a new fabric, which is preliminarily aged with a decoction of coffee, scented with cinnamon and vanilla, and imitations of patches are placed on it. And such a man-made miracle bears the name "attic toy".
It’s quite easy to make it yourself. After all, the toy has a minimum of details, is easy to cut and sew. Such crafts are also called "primitives" because they lack complexity. Everyone understands that the poor woman did not have the opportunity to make her daughter a handmade masterpiece, which experienced craftswomen are capable of. Yes, and it was quite a long time ago, in those days when the technologies were simple, and doll hair and eyes, so similar to living ones, were not sold in stores for needlewomen.
Materials from which toy parts are made
Remembering the background of the appearance of these “coffee” cuties, attic dolls are usually performed completely without hair: they are either painted on fabric or a hair-cloth made of fabric. But rag beauties enjoy the great love of their mistresses even without real hair, with faces painted or made using the technique of application.
Sometimes puppeteers use buttons instead of eyes. Some craftswomen specially select beads of different sizes for these purposes. Buttons can also be of various shapes.
Fabric for sewing toys
The most important condition when working on a craft, which should be strictly observed, is the right choice of matter. The fabric must be natural. Flax, burlap, a severe two-thread are best suited. Before making attic toys patterns from fabric, they tint them, brewing them in strong coffee.
Sometimes a toy in clothes is thought. In this case, the material for the outfit should also be carefully selected. The basic rule of "natural fabric" works here. But one more thing is added: modesty in the color scheme. The master must remember that the toy seemed to have lain in a dusty attic for several years, so the pattern faded, and coffee dust left an inescapable shade on the doll clothes.
Attic patterns
The most common crafts in this type of needlework are funny little animals. They only remotely resemble real animals. These are, rather, symbolic animals.
Attic toy patterns are quite easy to draw on their own, even for those people who do not have artistic skills. For example, a craftsman needs a hare made using this technique.
An attic toy usually consists of a minimum of parts. In the simplest version, there are only two of them. Having drawn a rectangle on the sheet, cuts should be made from above - this will be a hollow between the ears, and from below, between the back (here - the lower) paws. Then draw the front legs. It doesn’t matter if the drawing is asymmetrical, the legs will be too short, and the ears too long and wide. Such a pattern is very suitable for making an attic toy.
There is an option for making symbolic animals without paws at all. Then it is enough to draw a silhouette of a sitting bunny in profile. Separately, draw the ear of the animal.
Coffee making workshop
So, the master’s fabric is ready, there is a pattern. Now they will create the attic toy itself.
The master class will allow you to do the job quickly and with pleasure.
- Paper patterns cut out of paper are pierced with iron pins with iron pins . For tailoring, it is necessary to make two asymmetric parts. If the ears are made separately, then they will also need two pieces.
- Use a pencil or a special marker for a cut around the template.
- Scissors cut out the details.
- The torso patterns are folded to each other with the front side and stitched along the edge, leaving a hole.
- So that the seams do not “fight”, small cross cuts should be made in places with corners and rounds. Just be careful: no need to cut through the fabric too close to the seam!
- Through the hole, the workpiece is turned to the front side.
- Inside it is filled with a firework or synthetic winterizer.
- The hole is sutured.
- If necessary, sew ears, sometimes - separately made paws, ponytails.
- They prepare a mixture for flavoring the toys, carefully coat the entire surface with it, especially the seams.
- The doll is placed on a heating battery to dry.
- You can do this procedure twice.
- Now the finished toy is decorated: draw a muzzle or face with felt-tip pens, acrylic paints, sew on eyes-buttons, imitations of patches. Sometimes they make clothes for toys.
Toy flavoring process
For this procedure, a special mixture of coffee and cocoa (per teaspoon) is prepared with a good pinch of cinnamon. Optionally, you can put a kernel of cloves, a couple of peas of allspice and vanilla. All this is poured with 50 ml of boiling water. Without ceasing to stir the mixture, add a teaspoon of PVA glue to it. After complete dissolution of the last component, the flavor can be considered ready. It should be applied with a wide, hard brush.
Such a toy will acquire an additional brown tint and will exude coffee aroma for a very long time.
