In the Railway District of Rostov-on-Don, there is an excellent park area. It is located directly on the banks of the Don. This is Kumzhenskaya grove. Rostov is a city famous for its many attractions and monuments. There are many places in this metropolis where the townspeople like to go to relax. And Kumzhenskaya grove is one of them.
Description
This amazing park area is located on the very bank of the Don, one kilometer from Malinovsky Avenue. From the large and spacious glades of the complex, amazing landscapes open onto the river.
In spring and summer, these picturesque sites become a place of pilgrimage for the townspeople who come here for picnics and organize camps. Fishing lovers also come here. Although the sanitary service does not recommend swimming here, since there is no official beach on this stretch of coast, many citizens come here just to sit by the water and distract from the bustle of the city.
And in winter, when the river is covered with strong ice, ice-skating lovers and those who cannot imagine themselves without winter fishing gather here.
Memorial
But the townspeople and guests come here not only to breathe fresh air and walk along the alleys of the park, but also to pay tribute to the Soviet soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War. After all, the Kumzhenskaya Grove memorial, well-known in Rostov, is located here.
It was built in 1983. The memorial commemorates the soldiers of the Red Army who fell during the special ceremony of the city in 1941 and 1943. The large complex includes several monuments and a mass grave. The Kumzhenskaya Roscha memorial was given the status of an object included in the regional list of cultural heritage.
The complex consists of five pylons and four stela of glory, as well as a monument called "Storm" and several memorial plates. They carved the names of those combat units that participated in the battles for the liberation of Rostov.
Monuments stand along the main alley of the park. The Sturm Monument is the central site of the Kumzhenskaya Grove memorial. It is a sculptural group mounted on a granite pedestal and personifies soldiers going into battle.
Behind them is an eighteen-meter arrow, indicating the direction of the main blow of our troops. Directly next to the monument, a mass grave of fighters who died near Rostov was arranged. And on granite slabs their names are engraved.
It must be said that the author of the monument depicted in the sculpture group the real liberators of the city: Alexander Nozadze, a native of Abkhazia and a political officer, company commander, Karelian nationality, lieutenant Vladimir Milovidov, as well as machine gunners commander Alexei Filippov.
