The largest district of Irkutsk is Sverdlovsk. The district was formed in 1944. However, in 1953, the territorial unit was abolished, and in June 1954 they were re-formed. As of the beginning of 2017, 205 thousand people live in the district.
Previously, the Sverdlovsk district of Irkutsk was the village of Glazkovo. The district also included several settlements: the village of Kuzmikha, the village of Glazkovo, Melnikovo and Sinyushina Gora.
The first inhabitants in this area are mentioned by N. Sappharius from 1675. And at the end of the 18th century, Mogilev Kuzma founded a village here. Then Glazkov Efim appeared in the settlement, in all likelihood, the village was named in his honor. Both names are by far the most common in the region.
Today, there are many industrial enterprises, educational and scientific institutions in the territory. The Sverdlovsk district of the city of Irkutsk includes 15 microdistricts.
Akademgorodok
The village is actually located in the center of the left-bank part of the city on the banks of the Angara River. Nearby is the Irkutsk National Research Technical University and the corps of some faculties.
The main street of the microdistrict is the only connecting highway with other parts of the district. A huge number of researchers, candidates of sciences and doctors live here. Graduate students here are about 30%.
There is a museum on the territory of Akademgorodok, the main purpose of which is to popularize science among the masses. In the museum you can observe how the experiments are conducted, and in some even participate.
The microdistrict is famous for research institutes and other research institutions:

- Institute of Geochemistry and Geology;
- Institute for the Study of Solar-Terrestrial Physics and several others.
Akademgorodok is famous for the Arboretum and a national installation - a solar radio telescope.
Despite the intelligent composition of the local population, it was here that several armed attacks occurred, which ended in the deaths of several people. Anufriev A. and Lytkin N. were convicted of crimes, about which there was a lot of information in the local media.
May Day
One of the youngest neighborhoods in the city. The development project for this part of the Sverdlovsk district of Irkutsk by local architects was carried out from 1970 to 1990. At the same time, development was ongoing, so the buildings have different space-planning solutions. At the same time, it is a compact microdistrict with developed infrastructure and a well-established public transport network.
Sinyushin Mountain
One of the largest microdistricts of the Sverdlovsk region of Irkutsk on the left bank of the Angara River. The unofficial name of the village is Sinyushka.
The M55 and AN6 routes run here, so the roads are always overloaded. The microdistrict is the largest railway cargo and passenger station Kaya, several large industrial enterprises, shopping centers and cinemas.
University
The microdistrict project was developed in 1987, it was planned as part of the May Day settlement, therefore, it has a common architectural concept with it.

The development of the microdistrict was carried out from 1960 to 1990. The project involved the union of several villages for the residence of hydroelectric workers. Industrial facilities and new buildings
One of the largest enterprises of the city of Irkutsk in the Sverdlovsk region is located on Sukhbaatar Street 3. The power output is 660 thousand kW. The object was built since 1950 for 8 years. The dam of the hydroelectric power station unites the Sverdlovsk and October districts.

The second largest cold storage plant in the Urals and the Far East is located in the Sverdlovsk district of the city of Irkutsk. The company was built in two stages, in 1954 and 1959. In 1961, the third phase of construction was launched. The oil and fat factory has also been operating since 1951.
