Why spend a lot of money on buying a children's carnival or New Year's costume? After all, you can do anything yourself, for example, a firefly costume.
Materials
For a girl, you can make a very interesting and beautiful firefly costume with your own hands from inexpensive materials, some of which you probably have at home:
- Fatin is green.
- White wide elastic.
- Ping Pong Balls.
- The bottom is from two bottles.
- Easy black hat.
- Gouache.
- Acrylic paints.
- The wire is simple and chenille (fluffy).
- Nylon tights.
- Two liter bottle.
- Glowing sticks.
- Black dress without sleeves.
- Threads.
- Beige T-shirt.
- Scissors.
- Tape measure.
- Clay "Moment".
- Fluorescent paint (optional).
Making clothes
Firefly costume, or rather, its main part is done like this:
- Start by creating a skirt. To do this, measure the waist of the child, add a couple of centimeters and put this length on an elastic band. Sew its ends.
- Cut from tulle strips 15 centimeters wide and two times longer than the distance from the waist to the knee of the child. In the course of work, you will understand how many strips you need to make.
- Put the elastic on the back of the chair to make it easier to work. Fold the strip in half and throw the loop through the elastic, pass the free edges through the loop, tighten. But do not overtighten so that the elastic does not wrinkle. Keep doing this until the gum runs out.
- Cut the black dress in the center along the length. Sew around the waist and make a triangular cut to this point.
- Sew a beige T-shirt under the dress.
- Round the bottom of the dress, and cut the back, as if dividing the fabric into two parts. The end of each part should go on narrowing.
- Wrap the dress around the edge.
Rest
You can finish the firefly costume only by adding the remaining details: antennae, wings and a luminous ass. How to make them:
- From thick wire, form two large wings and two small ones.
- Wear nylon tights on each and tie at the beginning of the wire.
- Paint with acrylic (large in dark green, small in bright green). Silver colors add curls and dots.
- At the junction of the wings, tie two loops of elastic on each arm.
- Paint a two-liter bottle in bright green. Better with fluorescent paint, if not, then put glow sticks inside.
- Draw black stripes on the thread of the cap and on the topography of the bottle.
- Paint the ping-pong balls in gold or yellow and stick on the chenille wire. Paint the bottom of the bottles in black and glue close to each other on the front of the caps. From each black circle there should be a wire with a golden ball.
The do-it-yourself firefly costume is ready! Inspect it again, maybe you will add some details from yourself to make the image more interesting. If the terms for creating a costume are very short, then you can limit yourself to only antennae, back and wings, and use your own clothes, for example, a black dress or a t-shirt with leggings.
For boy
To make a firefly costume for a boy, you can use a simpler method (compared to the one described above). What do you need:
- Pants, hat, gloves and turtleneck or black shirt.
- Black chenille wire.
- Two leather belts.
- Big cardboard box.
- Paints.
- Scissors.
- Wire.
- Yellow light fabric (you can use yellow-colored nylon tights).
- Threads.
- Clay "Moment"
- Small luminous flashlights that work without an outlet, or glow sticks.
- Face paint.
Working process:
- On the cardboard draw wings, cut them out. Color in black. Let it dry well.
- While the wings are dry, from the chenille wire, make the necessary shape of the antennae, and twist the ends into balls. Sew or glue them to the hat.
- If the wings are already dry, then circle them along the outline with yellow paint.
- Make a hole for the belt on the cardboard. With it, the wings will be mounted on the back. Put the belt through the hole and each time you collect the firefly costume, fasten the belt behind your back.
- From the wire, create the shape of the back of the firefly, attach the luminous element of your choice and wrap it with a cloth.
- Insert the second belt into the pants only in the front and side loops. Attach the last element made to the back.
- Draw black circles around the eyes.
Done!
Individual parts
To create a Christmas firefly costume, just add tinsel. It can be tied to a belt or to wings. Replace the balls on the insect antennae with small Christmas toys. In general, no differences, but it looks much more festive.
Based on the lessons suggested above, you can create something new if, for example, in the version for girls, one pair of wings is not green, but black. Instead of a hat, use a bezel with antennae attached to it. The chenille wire can be replaced with ordinary wire simply by wrapping it with a suitable cloth.
As you can see, creating a firefly costume is not so difficult, and the result is no worse than in a store. Attract your child to create an image, then the process will bring you maximum pleasure!
