In the summer heat, each of us wants to cool off in sea water, and in the winter cold - soak up the rays of the gentle sun. Therefore, in winter and summer, many want to be on the beach. Some imagine a coast with soft sand, others - a pebble sea shore, others - a rocky wild corner of nature. But hardly anyone in dreams will see a glass beach. And in California, it really exists! An unusual place is located in the small town of Fort Bragg.
It all began in the forties of the twentieth century. Then, from all over the city, garbage began to be taken to the territory of the present beach. As a result, a huge public dump formed. Here was everything: from household trash to decommissioned cars. Giant mountains of garbage, piles of broken glass, piles of plastic waste over time reached critical sizes. They were just burned. This went on for more than twenty years, until in 1967 the city authorities, after discovering threatening
pollution of air, land and water, decided to close the city landfill. Programs were developed to restore local nature, and the area was finally cleared of bulky waste. But the small broken glass remained, and here nature took care of itself.
The surf surf painstakingly sharpened each sharp glass and turned piles of glass into a myriad of colored smooth pebbles of various sizes and shapes. The ocean did a truly jewelry job: eliminated the outrage committed by people on its shore, and turned the landfill into a unique clean sea coast. So there was a glass beach in California. Photos of this place are simply mesmerizing - the shore in the sun shines with all the colors and shades of the rainbow. It is incredibly beautiful!
Locals quickly chose the territory. They called it Glass Beach. Fort Bragg is very popular in California - people from all over the country come here to relax. Both tourists from other parts of the USA and foreign travelers seek to visit the amazing coast. Everyone who was fortunate enough to visit Glass Beach in California wanted to take at least one colored pebble with them as a souvenir. Polished glass quickly began to be taken away by tourists, and local craftsmen got the hang of making beautiful bracelets and necklaces from them.
In 2002, Glass Beach (USA) was bought by McCarricher National Park and turned into an inimitable exotic corner open to the public. Since then it has been forbidden to take unusual pebbles from here, however this prohibition is often violated, because each visitor wants to take a beautiful glass for memory. Not only people, but also crabs living in coastal waters do not want to obey the order of the authorities. It is with great pleasure that they use multi-colored building material for the construction of their homes.
