The article describes the coat of arms of the Astrakhan region.
Appearance
The modern coat of arms of the Astrakhan region is a quadrangular French heraldic shield with a pointed tip and rounded lower corners. The ratio of the height and width of the shield is 9: 8, the upper and lower fields along the vertical axis are correlated as 1: 1.
The shield field is painted in a plain blue color, in its center is a golden crown, under it there is a scimitar (edged weapon with a curved long and wide blade) with a gold handle. The scimitar's silver blade is turned to the left. The shield is crowned with an Astrakhan cap.
The golden crown that adorns the coat of arms of the Astrakhan region has a hoop with three leaf-shaped teeth, under which a green lining shines through. At the top is a golden miter (the headdress of priests in Christian churches, symbolizes the crown of thorns and at the same time the King of Christ), crowned with a cross. Miter with a hoop is connected by five arcs strewn with pearls. Along the hoop and in the center of the crown are sequentially located gems - rubies and emeralds.
The Astrakhan hat (synonymous with the โGreat Outfitโ crown) is a headpiece made in 1627 personally for the Russian Tsar Mikhail Romanov in honor of the conquest of the Astrakhan Khanate. It is a rounded frame, the lower part of which is decorated with a massive diadem with eight teeth, and the upper - with a two-story crown with a large emerald. At the bottom of the hat is trimmed with sable fur. The crown is strewn with pearls and precious stones.
Symbolism
Each element depicted on the emblem of the Astrakhan region carries a certain meaning:
- Crown - symbolizes the accession of the Astrakhan Khanate to Russia in 1556.
- Scimitar - means the willingness of the Russian governor to defend his native land from enemies. The blade is directed to the side where the conquerors can come from. According to another version, the presence on the coat of arms of an eastern crooked sword represents the original belonging of the khanate to the Muslim world.
- Hat - says that the territory of the region is not primordially Russian land, but became part of the empire at a certain time.
- The blue color of the shield indicates the location of the region in the lower reaches of the Volga River - one of the largest on the planet.
History
The coat of arms of the Astrakhan region, the photo of which is in the article, appeared in the middle of the 16th century. This fact was recorded in the "Titular" - a special state book. The symbols of the Astrakhan Territory initially differed from the modern version: the naked saber (instead of the scimitar) was turned to the right, the crown and cap had a different look, and the coat of arms was framed by oak leaves intertwined with St. Andrew's ribbon. The final appearance of the coat of arms was formed in 1717, and legally approved in 1856. Since then, his drawing has not fundamentally changed.
Ancient images of the coat of arms with a crowned wolf have been preserved. However, the origin of this option is not yet clear. According to one version, such an emblem symbolized the abundance of predators in the steppes of the region.
