Serafimovich - the ancient city of Cossacks
The small cozy town of Serafimovich is located 200 kilometers from the regional center. The main attractions of Serafimovich of the Volgograd region are his songs, dances, hospitality of the inhabitants, a 4-century history, loyalty to the Cossack traditions. However, besides these, there are quite tangible memorial places in the city. In the heart of the town, the architecture of the Cossack village is still preserved. The old one-, two-story brick houses of the 19th century are well-groomed and carefully stored by local residents. The Church of the Ascension with the aisle of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is one of the oldest buildings in the city. Being in Serafimovich, it is impossible to pass by such a sights of the Volgograd region as the museum of the writer, in whose honor the city is named. The writer’s personal belongings, furniture, textiles, sculptures, collected by all means and carefully stored, create such an authentic atmosphere that it seems as if time froze here forever in the 1940s. Not far from the museum of the writer is another one - the museum of the Ust-Medveditsky Cossacks. Here you can touch the history of the Don Cossacks, consider their weapons, household items, documents. Ust-Medveditsky Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery, standing almost on the banks of the Don, is one of the most visited places in the region.
Volzhsky - a young city on the banks of an ancient river
Located in the Volgograd suburbs Volzhsky from a height similar to an open palm. This is a fairly young settlement, so it cannot boast of ancient buildings and monuments of architecture. Sights of the Volga Volgograd region are somewhat different. Most of the memorials are dedicated to the development of industry in the region, urban planning, the famous Volga state district power station. There are spiritual institutions in Volzhsky. Kamyshin: a working city and its attractions
The third largest in the region, Kamyshin stands in a picturesque area, on the banks of the Kamyshinka River. Citizens say that the main attractions of Kamyshin of the Volgograd region are its plants and factories. Developed industry sets the pace of urban life. But the reed workers are not averse to rest after a working day. The favorite place of city dwellers and tourists is the Alexander Park, the construction of which began back in 1900. The city museum is famous and attractive for guests of Kamyshin. In it you can find expositions devoted to the history of the city from the day of foundation to the present day. Cossack village Olkhovka
The Volgograd region, whose sights are known even outside of Russia, is famous not only for war memorials and architectural monuments, but also for its unique nature. Often tourists are taken by small towns and villages, spread out on the picturesque banks of numerous rivers.
A vivid example of this is the little Olkhovka, founded by the Don Cossacks in the eighteenth century. Each tourist who comes to these parts seeks not only to admire the beauty of Russian land, but also plans to visit such sights of the Volgograd region as the Holy Mountain Barrow, located in the north-west of Olkhovka. At the foot of the mound there is a spring with crystal clear water. Legend has it that Alexander Nevsky himself quenched his thirst. Kamenno-Brodsky Holy Trinity Monastery is an equally famous and popular place among pilgrims in the Olkhovsky district. The ancient monastery complex is surrounded on all sides by chalk mountains, pitted with many caves. The monastery is famous for its healing springs, beating from the bowels of the earth. Until now, researchers have found new caves and passages that keep secrets of ancient times. It was established that in these underground caches local residents were hiding even during the time of the Batu invasion. The territory of the monastery is planted with giant oaks, among which there are 300-400-year-old elders.
