From the history of the city

The city of Pavlovsk was founded in the early 18th century. by the great emperor Peter I. By his order merchants from Azov and Taganrog were resettled here, thanks to which this place became an important shopping center. Initially, Pavlovsk played the role of a strategically important military shipyard and fortress. It is important to note that in the first period of the existence of the settlement, prisoners of war captured by the Petrine army in the Battle of Poltava were engaged in its arrangement . In 1711, Pavlovsk received city status. This place became the birthplace of the great Russian fleet. It was here, at the Pavlovsk shipyard, that ships were built that became the backbone of the imperial army. In addition, foundries and cannons were founded in the city. Guns, cores and bells were cast in their walls. That is why in the 18th century. the city was called "small St. Petersburg." Over time, a sewing factory also appeared here.
