The Georgians then began to insist on restoring the historical borders of their state, which belonged to the reign of Queen Tamara. Officially as a village Makopse was first registered already under the Soviet Union. This happened in 1923. The settlement became part of the Tuapse district of the Kuban-Black Sea region. In 1935, the village became the administrative center of the local village council and became part of the Shapsug district. The latter, in turn, was renamed Lazarevsky in 1945.
