How to make MicroSIM yourself

A SIM card is an integral part of a mobile device, without which it is impossible to make a single call (except emergency) or send a message. Everyone is used to the "SIM cards," as they are popularly called. However, high technology does not stand still. Year after year, smartphones, tablets, communicators are becoming more productive, memory capacity is increasing, support for two or more SIM cards is being turned on, and the devices themselves are being reduced in size. However, for the sake of such a miniature, coupled with enviable technical characteristics, you have to sacrifice something. This time, this “something” turned out to be a SIM card. If you pick up a modern smartphone and look at the SIM slot, then you will be surprised to see that it has become smaller. The fact is that the new MicroSIM chip card standard has recently been introduced. In the near future, the new product will supersede the usual MiniSIM cracks.

The similar evolution of SIM in MicroSIM for many people who are not very familiar with mobile technology raises concerns and many questions: will the phone work correctly, where can I get such SIM-cards, how much will it cost. All these fears are completely groundless: the new MicroSIM-card differs from the usual SIM card only in size. Moreover, you can make MicroSIM with your own hands, for this you need only a little patience, a ruler, a pen and sharp scissors.

Any SIM card consists of two parts: a chip with contacts, where all our information is stored (phone numbers, messages, call histories), and a plastic casing, the shape and size of which are adapted to the telephone jack, which ensures the correct connection. If the MiniSIM plastic shell took up a lot of space, then in the updated SIM they sacrificed it in order to increase the functionality of the phone. The idea and its implementation turned out to be so good that the manufacturers of mobile smartphones decided to make micro-sim a new standard for their devices. They are convinced: users will like the innovation.

So, how do you do MicroSIM with your own hands? Armed with the already mentioned tools, we proceed to marking. The necessary sizes and even templates are easily found on the Internet. For reference: MicroSIM size is 15 x 12 mm, the right corner is cut to 45º, the allowance on both sides is 2.5 mm. Now we take sharp scissors (the ideal tool for such an operation is a cutter for photographs) and carefully cut along the outlined lines, trying not to touch the body of the chip. After that, insert MicroSIM into the smartphone and reboot it. Now everything should work. But! Do it yourself with MicroSIM only if your SIM card was released no earlier than 2008. The fact is that with old SIM cards, the chip area is too large for such conversions.

If you are afraid that you won’t be able to do MicroSIM with your own hands, then you can contact your operator’s office with a statement about replacing the card. This service is completely free, you will be given a new SIM card right away, the tariff plan and the list of connected services will remain the same.

In addition, in many mobile phone stores, when buying a smartphone with MicroSIM support, the consultant offers the buyer to immediately trim the old SIM card. Such a service costs about 150 rubles.
