One of the problems Word users often encounter is the appearance of blank pages. They may appear at the end or middle of the document. In the first case, this does not harm. But in the second, this can lead to problems. This article is devoted to how to delete a page in the 2007 Word and prevent unpleasant consequences in the form of irrevocably damaged paper.
Reasons for the appearance of blank lines and pages
They appear as a result of the following user actions:
- Incorrect or excessive addition of line breaks using the Enter key.
- Adding page breaks using Ctrl + Enter.
- Insert blank pages or clear existing ones.
In addition to user actions, incorrect paragraph settings can lead to the appearance of blank sheets.
Ways to remove extra pages in Word 2007
There are 6 methods to get rid of blank pages in this editor:
- Delete using the Delete or Backspace keys.
- Delete blank pages created using the Page Break feature.
- Delete sheets in the middle of the document.
- Delete empty space after tables.
- Removing a page along with content.
- Cleaning with the "Replace" function.
Method number 1: Delete and Backspace to the rescue!
This method is the simplest of the existing ones and many (but not all) master it using the “scientific poke method”. It is performed as follows:
- Include non-printable characters. There are 3 ways to do this:
Press the button with “¶” in the “Home” tab in the “Paragraph” block.
Use the "hot keys" Ctrl + Shift + 8; Use sequential keystrokes Alt> I> 8;
- On blank pages, select the new symbol that appears or place the cursor (flickering wand) in front of it.
- Press Delete or Backspace.
Method 2: Taming Page Break
To get rid of extra pages accidentally added by the Word 2007 function of the same name, you need to perform the following sequence of actions:
- Make unprintable characters visible.
- Find the text “Page break” that appears in the text. It is usually located on a sheet located above a blank.
- Select it and delete it.
Method number 3: if only formatting does not fly off
Sometimes blank pages appear at the border of two sections of a document. Moreover, each of them may have its own formatting. If you delete a blank page in the second way, then the appearance of sheets coming after a blank page will change. The algorithm for deleting a page in Word 2007 consists of the following steps:
- Include invisible characters "¶".
- Find the line “Page break (from the next page)” and place the cursor in front of “¶” on the next sheet.
- Go to "Page Settings" in the "Page Layout" tab by clicking on the lower right corner of the block of the same name or by typing Alt> >.
- Go to the “Paper Source” tab.
- In the drop-down list opposite the inscription “Start section” select “From the current page”.
- Click OK.
Method # 4: hide the invisible
When creating tables ending on the lower border of the sheet, the next page automatically reserves space for a new line. In this case, deleting a blank page in Word using Delete or Backspace will fail. To get rid of the empty sheet that appeared in this way:
- Display unprintable characters.
- Select the one immediately after the table.
- Open the Font dialog box (Home> Font; Ctrl + D; Alt> I> FT).
- Check the box “Hidden”.
- Click OK.
Method number 5: remove unnecessary information
In addition to deleting blank pages, sometimes you need to delete a page along with its contents. The way you delete a page in Word 2007 is slightly different than how you do it in later versions. To perform this operation you need:
- Make unprintable characters visible.
- Go to the page following the one you need using the Go function (Ctrl + G; page counter on the status bar; Alt> I> > ).
- Select all unnecessary text along with the last “¶” character on the previous page.
- Delete using the Backspace or Delete buttons.
Method number 6: I'm too lazy to check the document
This method is suitable in cases where the document is large, and there is no time or desire to carefully check it. The procedure is as follows:
- Call the "Replace" window (Alt> I> H; Ctrl + H; the "Page" button on the status bar or the "Replace" in the "Edit" section of the "Home" tab).
- The cursor is placed in the first line of the open window and the space bar is pressed 2 times.
- In the second - the same, but 1 time.
- Click "Replace All" and close the window.
This method allows you to remove all double spaces after sentences, page breaks and extra lines. Using the same method, you can search for excess punctuation marks and remove them.
