One of the most popular indoor plants in our country for many years has been violets (or, as they are also called, senpolis). They have been familiar to all of us since childhood with their soft velvety leaves and bright beautiful flowers of various shades. Despite their prevalence and unpretentiousness, caring for the senpolis has a number of nuances. This also applies to reproduction. Therefore, we suggest today to learn about how to plant a violet. We also touch on other methods of propagation of this houseplant.
How to plant a violet?
If you have not transplanted your flower for a long time, then in one pot you may have a whole plantation of plants. This leads to the fact that the senpolia either ceases to bloom at all, or this process becomes rare and scarce. In this case, you need to plant your violet as soon as possible. In this case, keep in mind that in the pot there may be plants that are already separately rooted from the main flower, and rosettes that do not have their own roots and are attached to the mother stem. So, how to plant the violet in different containers correctly?
Training
Before you begin the process, make sure that the soil in the pot with your plant is moderately moist. Then, very carefully remove the violet and separate the sockets on it from its trunk. This must be done with a sharp object (for example, a knife, razor blade or needle). The cut points should then be sprinkled with crushed coal.
We plant a violet
After you have separated the sockets from the mother flower, they should be put on the root. This can be done both in water and in the substrate (sand, coconut fiber, vermiculite, etc.). Plants rooted in the substrate should either be covered with polyethylene or placed in a greenhouse. As for the stepsons of the flower, which have already acquired their own root system, they should be planted in separate pots, like adult plants. Very soon, young violets will begin to grow quite quickly and delight you with their lush color. However, before placing the shoots and the mother plant in new pots, you need to know how to do it correctly. We will talk further about how violets should be transplanted at home.
How to replace the land and move the senpolia to a new pot
To begin with, at the bottom of the container in which you will plant the violet, you need to lay out the drainage. If you plan to carry out wick watering, then immediately install the wick through the drain hole. So, the pot is ready to receive a new "tenant".
How to properly extract the senpolia from the old pot
The transplantation of domestic violets, which are very sensitive plants, should take place very carefully. This also applies to the process of extracting the senpolia from the old pot. To begin with, gently tap on the outside of the flower container, and then tilt it and pour out excess soil. If the soil in the pot was loose, then after carrying out such manipulations you will be able to easily pull out the flower, holding it at the base of the outlet. If the earth is old, then you must first loosen it.
Transplanting a room violet implies taking care of its root system. So, when you removed a flower from the soil, gently shake the ground from it. In this case, carefully remove the old brown roots that have already served their term and no longer perform useful functions. Do not forget to sprinkle damaged areas with charcoal. In no case should you wash the roots, as this increases the risk of losing the entire plant.
Adult violets, as a rule, are transplanted into the pots in which they grew before. Since the root system of these plants does not need an increase in volume, just replacing the earth is enough. Growing senpolia should be transplanted in larger containers. At the same time, the size of new pots should exceed the size of old ones by no more than a couple of centimeters.
So, we proceed directly to planting the plant. We hold the violet with one hand, and with the other we pour the earth to the level of attachment of the lower leaf. We compact the soil by gently tapping the pot on a flat surface and gently pressing it on top.
In some cases, the senpolia is transplanted by transshipment. In this case, the plant from the old pot should be removed with great care to prevent shedding of earthen coma. The violet is transferred to a larger pot, and the missing soil is added to the edges. With this method, the old soil that your senpolia is used to is fully preserved.
So, today we learned about how to plant a violet, as well as methods of transplanting this wonderful plant. We hope that this information will help you, and your senpolis will be healthy, will bloom even more magnificent and will please all your household for many years.
