History of the theater

A theater and forerunner can be considered a musical and dramatic society led by actress Olympiad Volkonskaya, created around 1880. Officially, the date of the creation of the theater is considered to be November 28, 1882. The theater was already very popular then, but could not accommodate everyone because of the small auditorium. The year 1888 was marked by the purchase of a more spacious building - an old wooden barracks. Sometimes it was necessary to play in a cold unheated room by candlelight. In 1904, the building was laid, in which one part of the premises was reserved for the theater, and the other was supposed to belong to the fire society. Theatrical make-up artist and decorator Nikolai Ivanovich Tropin organized voluntary construction work with the involvement of citizens. He led the construction. The Minusinsk Theater was opened in a festive setting on December 27, 1906. Surprisingly, the theater worked without a director, and one of the actors was engaged in staging the performances. In 1912, the fire department was transferred to a new building, and the old building completely became the property of the creative team. If you want to see how the Minusinsk Drama Theater looked at the beginning of the last century, the photo below will help you. During the difficult war years, artists gave performances in hospitals and military units, sometimes up to five performances a day. In 1980, the theater receives the status of a state. The troupe tours a lot, participates in theater competitions and prestigious theater festivals.
