Also, the sight device allows you to hit targets at a distance of up to five hundred meters. On the barrel itself are located the rear sight and front sight, which are a one-piece design with the device bar for sight. The bar has marks containing numerical values from one to five. These data are correlated with positions from one hundred meters to five hundred. If necessary, it is possible to set a specific position using a moving clamp.

History of occurrence

High-quality hunting weapons have always been in high demand in Russia. Technical innovations and improvements in the military industry have stimulated the development of professional weapons for commercial professional hunting.

But at the beginning of the twentieth century, hunters were forced to use outdated specimens, these guns did not fully meet their objectives, did not fit the dimensions and other characteristics for a high-quality hunting.

For example, the Berdan rifle possessed the necessary reserve of cartridge power, which could crush a large animal found among Russian forests. The used bullet, 4.2-linear, met the required parameters.

But the rifle, being a single-shot, was awkward, too heavy and exceeded the comfortable length. It was not possible to shoot accurately and efficiently from it, and this is important in hunting conditions. Mosin’s three-line weapon , or rather a rifle, which was highly appreciated at that time, was fast-firing, but also not suitable for regular and professional use for fishing purposes.

These rifles tried to remake, change their structure and modification, but the results did not suit the engineers. Immediately, the cost began to rise, and production turned out to be unprofitable. There was an attempt to develop a carbine and promote it to the masses with V. Markevich. He was a good specialist in the field of weapons. Markevich took the Mosin rifle as the basis and used the cartridge 7.62, but his proposal was unsuccessful, and such a small-arms, variational weapon was not used.

Much later, in the late sixties, Blum M.N. introduced a carbine, the model of which was called B-9. This weapon was supposed to shoot with special bullets, with a caliber of 9.3x64. Bullets were also developed by Blum. The carbine hit with its power, but also could not get on the conveyor.

Prototype

The true predecessor of the Elk carbine was the NK-8.2 - a carbine that was developed on the basis of the Mosin gun. NK-8.2 became the owner of a waferless cartridge. An obstacle to the spread was the low speed of the bullet, but its design served as a prototype for the future hunting professional weapons.

Izhmash began to produce NK-8.2 in 1965. This modification was for a cartridge with an increased velocity of bullets. The carbine was designed for a caliber of 9.3x66 millimeters, and then was redone under the more severe and powerful cartridge created by Blum. The carbine, made to 9.3x53 caliber, became known as "Elk", more precisely, "Elk-9."

Hunting carbine "Los-7" appeared a little later, it was accompanied by bullets of 7.62x51A caliber. In the early nineties, the world saw the modification, sharpened by the NATO western cartridge 7.62x51M 308 Win. The entire linear component of the Elk rifle family has gained immense popularity among hunters in Russia. Particularly valuable parameters are reliability and accuracy at a relatively low cost.

Modifications

An elk hunting rifle varies due to different cartridges. Also available are versions sharpened for western bullets. The main existing versions of "Elk":

"Elk-1" - this type has been produced since 1962 and was intended for a 9x53 mm cartridge. Weapons were produced until 1976.

Carabiner "Elk-4" - this type of gun is made for the cartridge 7.62x51 mm. The release lasted from 1977 until the early nineties. One of the most common types of carbine.

"Elk-7" is a fairly new version designed for a caliber of 7.62x51 millimeters. This cartridge is combined with NATO standards.

Carabiner "Elk 7-1" - repeats the previous model, but has a removable store, the start of production started in the nineties.

"Elk-8" - designed for the power of a cartridge of 9.3x64 mm caliber.

"Elk-9-1" (KO-9-1) is also a modification for 9.3x64 millimeters.

"Elk-9-2" - a model for the rifle cartridge 7.62x63 mm.

The rifled carbine "Los-9-3" is a new modification for the western rifle-type cartridge 7x65 millimeters.

Features

Hunting carbine "Los" collects reviews about the following features: carbines are used either in combination with rifle-type cartridges that have the property of heaping, which allows you to shoot confidently from a distance of about three hundred meters, or powerful cartridges that will stop the largest and most ferocious animal in Russia the forest.

disadvantages

Carabiner "Los" reviews the following drawbacks: a removable store may be of poor quality, with plastic parts. Sometimes the store drops out or leaves a little, which prevents the hunter from reacting to the fact that the supply of cartridges to the barrel is over.

The barrel channels are also poorly processed, sometimes jamming and smooth shutter operation.

Some owners cannot cope with fine-tuning. A serious difficulty is the tight movement of the shutter, and especially when opening it. This is due to poor-quality and inadequate processing of the kinematic duo “bevel bolt stem and percussion ledge”. Also there is a low-quality processing or even broken geometry at the base of the bolt handle and the copier of the receiver. When the shutter handle is directed upward, a tremendous force is created on the listed components and their surfaces. In addition, everything is aggravated by defects in poor processing of the barrel box channel. Of course, insufficient processing upsets and annoys hunters, but given the low cost, you should not expect any ideal parameters.

Experts and amateurs recommend to cope with this type of trouble by carefully grinding and, of course, polishing. All contact parts and surfaces of the bolt and barrel box should be exposed to these effects. To understand where the roughness is, you need to carefully understand the mechanism and structure as a whole. After the grinding, lubrication and polishing work, when all the flaws are eliminated, the weapon will please the real hunter and will serve for many years.
