This article will be useful to those people who decided to connect their lives with writing articles or doing some work related to writing textual works, but so far have little knowledge in this area. In this article, we will figure out how to make paragraphs in Word. Such a small supposedly trifle, but nevertheless necessary in almost every work, but after reading the article you will learn as many as three ways how this can be done.
Making a paragraph using a ruler
Now let’s figure out how to make paragraphs in Word using the Ruler tool. This method has both advantages and disadvantages. Among the advantages, one can single out the speed of execution, and the inaccuracies in the measurement can be classified as disadvantages. But first things first. We now turn directly to the point.
Usually the ruler in the program is enabled by default, but if for some reason you do not have it, then do the following:
- Go to the "View" tab.
- Find the "Show" area on the toolbar.
- Check the box next to "Ruler."
After that, the desired tool will appear in your interface.
We are only interested in the line that is in the upper part. As you can see, there are three sliders on the left side and one on the right. For paragraphs, the topmost slider on the left is responsible.
To indent the first line of each paragraph, initially select all the text. If it is quite voluminous, you can use the CTRL + A hot keys. After that, holding the left mouse button, drag the upper slider to the right, exactly as much as you need to indent.
Use the "Paragraph" settings menu
So, the first way how to make paragraphs in the "Word", we have figured out. As mentioned, it can be applied quite quickly, however, setting the exact parameter will fail. This is not the case with the method that we will now analyze. And we will analyze how to make paragraphs in Word using the Paragraph settings menu.
The name of the menu speaks for itself, in it you can set all the necessary parameters. But initially it’s worth opening it. To do this, click the icon that is indicated in the image below. It is located on the "Home" tab. Do not forget to highlight the part of the text in which you want to indent.
In the window that appears, we are interested in only one area - "Indent". It has a drop-down list on the right side. Having opened it, you need to select "Indent", and in the box on the left enter directly the distance by which the paragraph will be made.
This was the second way to make a paragraph in Word. After making adjustments, do not forget to apply all the changes by clicking the "OK" button.
Apply tab
So, we have already examined two ways to make paragraphs in Word. Using the first, you could quickly indent the first line of a paragraph, but you could not set the exact parameters. And with the help of the second, on the contrary, more time was spent, but it was possible to set the exact parameter. Now we look at the tab.
To be honest, this will not even work out a paragraph, but just a long space before the word, but visually it can not be distinguished from a paragraph. This action is performed using the TAB key. Its location on the keyboard can be seen below.
Initially, position the cursor where you want to indent, then press TAB. This method is good in that it is done very quickly, but the main minus is that if there are a lot of paragraphs, it takes a lot of time.
