"Metro 2033": a summary of the chapters of the book

Maybe someone decided to just refresh their memory, maybe someone after a long enough break decided to read the sequel - “Metro 2034” and “Metro 2035”, but there is no time to re-read the previous book. For them, we publish a summary of Metro 2033. Here there is only the backbone, the basis of the storyline, swirling around the main character.

Preface to a brief retelling

We begin our brief summary of “Metro 2033” by Dmitry Glukhovsky with a brief tour of the post apocalyptic world of the subway as a whole. The book tells about those who at the time of a nuclear strike in Moscow were lucky enough to be in the subway. All doors were closed by alarm, and people were cut off from the outside world. Now they live underground. Over time, the metro divided into various faiths, there are sections where the Communists rule, there are adherents of democracy, such as the Hansa, but ordinary people live in remote parts of the branches who do not care about political and other struggles.

They feed on mushrooms that are grown on plantations, and rats. Some were lucky to have pigs. Each station has its own specialization. For example, at the VDNH station, where the main character Artyom lives, they grow something that is brewed and drunk like tea.

First chapter

Sentinels in Metro 2033

So, "Metro 2033" Glukhovsky, a summary of 1 chapter. Previously, the main character Artyom lived at another station, which fell under the invasion of rats. He was rescued by one of the soldiers and subsequently lived with him among the small population of the VDNH station.

Recently, from the neighboring station, some obscure entities have begun to make themselves felt, which they have dubbed Black people. Artem suspects that they could well have appeared from the surface, because as teenagers they tried to make a sortie to the surface and on the way back could not close the airtight doors at the neighboring abandoned Botanic Garden station.

Second chapter

An experienced stalker nicknamed Hunter comes to the station and has heard about black people. After a short conversation, he cunningly lures the truth from Artem. He tells him about the remaining open door at a nearby station.

Stalker said that for such they should be executed. But after he lightly tempted the guy, he gave him the order. If he does not return from his campaign towards the Botanical Garden station, so that the guy goes to Polis (the central station of the Hansa association, located near the Central Library), he will find a man nicknamed Melnik and give him a capsule made of a cartridge.

Third chapter

Hunter told him to wait a couple of days. They passed, but the hunter never showed up. And Artem is about to set off. Uncle Sasha (his stepfather) was opposed to having his adoptive son stagger along the subway, but when he announced that he had signed up with a friend in a caravan at the Riga station, he did not resist.

So, four people armed with Kalashnikovs set off on a trolley. He never said to his father that he was going to continue on after the Riga.

Chapter four

Fighters in the subway 2033

The caravan safely arrives at the station Alekseevskaya, where Artem and a friend discuss how easier it is to pave the way to the huge station “Library named after Lenin, ”his final path. Like it or not, but it turns out that his path lies either through the "Reds", adherents of communism, or through stations that preach fascism and call their union the "Fourth Reich." Passing through such stations does not bode well.

The caravan sets off again. On the way, Artem begins to hear some muffled voices. No one else heard them. Instead, his comrades simply fell into a trance and began to fall asleep. Artem, who did not fall into a trance, had to save his squad alone. But the voices had a very strong effect on his psyche.

At “Riga”, Artyom met a type named Bourbon, who found out that Artyom was not exposed to any “trans” and was stuffed into him as partners in the tunnel to the station. "Sukharevskaya". For two full machine stores and food on the road, Artem agrees to take Bourbon with him.

Fifth chapter

They safely reached art. "Prospect Mira", except for the fact that Artem this time heard a voice, slightly different from those that he heard from the trumpet to Art. "Riga". At that moment, a certain insight almost descended upon him, but at the next moment everything was gone.

Further, their path went directly to the "Sukharevskaya", and at some point some kind of psychic wave began to dominate the travelers. Artem began to hear voices again, and Bourbon, meanwhile, died. Artem could not leave his body to rats, and began to drag him on himself further. But the traveler who met him on the way dissuaded him from this occupation. Subsequently, they went to the dark station, and Artem fell into a sleep without strength.

Metro map 2033

Sixth chapter

A brief summary of the “Metro 2033” of Chapter 6 will begin with the fact that, waking up, Artem finally met his random companion. He called himself the last incarnation of the great Genghis Khan and the sorcerer, but he allowed Artem to call himself simply Khan. Earlier in the Bourbon backpack, Artem stumbled upon a very detailed metro map and took it with him. Khan called this map with strange notes the legendary Guidebook, which tends to warn travelers guided by it about the danger that threatens them.

Khan could really mentally affect people, which helped him gather a few people from the dark station in order to take Artem to Kitay Gorod, because, according to him, circumstances would not allow him to get to Polis alone on his way.

Seventh chapter

Along the way, on the "Turgenevskaya", in the caravan there was a discord and their detachment split in two. Some wanted to go through one tunnel, Khan, Artem and Ace - along the second. They survived, and they died.

Pursued on the heels of some invisible threat, they finally reached the station, Kitai Gorod, which was under the control of two gangs. There they were finally able to somewhat recover. Here their paths diverge with Khan.

Eighth chapter

The station was attacked and Artem had to take his legs. Along the way, he helps a man in years who has had a heart attack. He was with a child with Down syndrome. They spent the night among the technicians who lived in the carriage. They were arranged in a tent in which Mikhail Porfiryevich (the name of the man he helped) told him something about the Reds and the metro legend - the Emerald City. Most likely, someone managed to eavesdrop on their conversation, since the Reds wanted to arrest Mikhail Porfiryevich. Artem somehow imagined that Hunter was warning him of a future danger, and they were running towards Pushkinskaya.

But there one of the fascist officers did not like Vanya - a boy with Down's disease, which is very reminiscent of a mutation. He shot him and then Mikhail Porfirevich. When trying to save a man, Artem kills one of the officers, for which he is thrown into a cage.

Chapter nine

Subway station 2033

We decided to simplify the further summary of Metro 2033, or rather, chapters 9, since nothing happens in it mainly. Artem sits in a cage for the whole chapter and suffers the mockery of the Nazis. Only at the end, when he is executed by hanging, a gang of reds emerges from nowhere and saves the guy from the noose.

Chapter 10

After spending some time with the Chegevara squad, all of whose fighters Artyom really liked, and to the extent that he seriously thought about staying with them, he continues on his way. Landed by fighters on Paveletskaya, he meets a guy named Mark, who explains to him that without a passport, which remained with the Nazis, he was ordered to go to the territory of Hansa.

He decides to take part in the rat race. The prize for victory will be a free pass to Hansa. In the event of a loss, he and Mark had to clean the local needs for a year. The untrained rat Artem and Mark lost and they set to work. But on the fifth day Artyom was sick of it, and he ran down the tunnel toward Dobryninskaya. He entered the station under the guise of a plumber, but he was immediately twisted and thrown into Serpukhovskaya. Thus, Artem again found himself outside the Hansa. At the abandoned station "Polyanka" he was picked up, washed and changed by members of the post-Armageddon sect.

Eleventh chapter

Further summary of Metro 2033 will be incomplete if we do not mention that from local conversations he learned about the existence of a secret passage on Metro-2 for the elect and about Invisible Observers, higher-order creatures waiting until the remains of humanity atone for their sins.

Later, thinking about how his path was taking shape and that he was slowly but surely approaching the goal, he also “fell” from the sectarians, stepping on his last tunnel along the road to Polis.

Twelfth chapter

He was allowed to enter Polis as soon as he named the name of Miller. He stopped at "Borovitskaya" by Danila, from whom he learned a lot. In particular, that the Council rules the Polis, and that it consists of Brahmins, custodians of knowledge, one of which was Danila himself.

The next day, Miller appeared, Artem handed him a capsule and talked about Black people. He said that he was aware of such cases and presented it to the Council, which refused to help the residents of VDNH in the fight against Black people. They also did not believe Artem that the Polyanka station was not dangerous to people. According to them, there were emissions of hallucinogenic gases.

Thirteenth chapter

Artem was about to leave when one of the Brahmins caught up with him and told them that they had some kind of belief about the Chosen One. Allegedly, if he is able to meet with spirits at the station "Destiny" (as he called "Clearing"), then he may well be it. And therefore, he should try to go with the detachment to the building of the Central Library on the surface, in order to get the ancient Book about the history of mankind, which for some reason they need before the cut.

Having heard enough stories about the mutants living in the library building, he nevertheless decided to make an attempt and prepared to march to the surface, because for this he was promised to give something that could help save the residents of VDNH from adversity. He was outfitted as it should and among the group of stalkers for the first time after the memorable incident at Art. "Botanical Garden," rose to the surface.

Chapter fourteen

No matter how the Brahmins exhorted him, that if he is the chosen one, the book itself will call him to itself, he never found a book in the library building. But the detachment ran into mutant librarians. Brahmin Danila was mortally wounded, and before interrupting his suffering, Artem received from him a package, a kind of payment for a book that he never found.

Artyom was ordered the way to the metro, and therefore the stalker Melnik told him to head towards the Savelovskaya station along the city streets. He had to hurry, because the sun was dangerous for him and had to have time to get to the descent underground before sunrise.

Barely dodging mutant predators, Artem just before sunrise managed to go down the subway to st. "Savelovskaya", where Melnik was already waiting for him. Burning with curiosity, they decided to open the bag.

Chapter fifteen

Another metro station 2033

Those who want to refresh their memory and recall how it all ended should carefully read the summary of Metro 2033 from this place, since the main events begin to unfold from chapter 15.

In the package, as it turned out, there was a map of the location of the missile military unit that survived during nuclear strikes. It was with her help that they decided to deal with the Blacks. The path to it lay through Metro-2, the passage to which (judging by the map) should be near the station. Mayakovskaya. He and Miller reached Art. "Kiev". Missing for a while Melnik returned, bringing with him a rocket specialist named Tretyak.

Sixteenth chapter

Here, children have been disappearing for a long time, and while being at Artyom’s station, another boy disappeared - Oleg. Together with his father, they set out on the wanted list, and Artem discovers a hatch in one of the tunnels through which they penetrate into the technical passages, where they were caught by the savages who lived within the boundaries of Art. "Victory Park."

These savages believed in the Great Worm, from which everything came. The tunnels, which are subway branches, were allegedly dug by him. They also had a high priest, who, as it turned out later, was a normal normal person before the catastrophe, and now for some reason he came up with such an “interesting” religion. And again Artem was imprisoned in a cell.

Seventeenth chapter

In this chapter, Artyom and his father rescued from the hands of the obsessed, who almost ate them, a detachment of stalkers Melnik, who passed through Metro-2. Upon release, they had to use explosives, due to which one of the tunnels was destroyed. It was on him that the stalkers wanted to go. Now, they had one path, again, along the Metro-2 branch, which runs under the Kremlin itself, in which something terrible and unpredictable lived. It attacked them (if I may say so, since it consisted entirely of some obscure gel-like mass), but the stalkers managed to drive it away with the help of the fire that it was afraid of.

Chapter eighteen

The Tretiak (missile) was killed in a battle with the savages, but it so happened that the father of the rescued boy himself turned out to be a missile and decided to help. Now the detachment, led by Melnik, went to the Mayakovskaya, in the direction of the missile part. Artyom was given the task to get to the Black people as close as possible so that they could know where to launch rocket attacks.

Metro 2033 appearance of one of the stations

Nineteenth chapter

The summary of the book "Metro 2033" comes to a climax. Artyom, with his remaining partner, rode a trolley to Prospect Mira, where they learned that VDNH had been attacked by Chernykh, which means that the dream he had recently turned out to be prophetic.

There he learned that in the Hansa they decided to blow up the metro line going towards VDNKh in order to defend themselves against the Black invasion. Here Artem meets again and says goodbye to Sukhoi (stepfather) before his trip to the surface in order to serve as a gunner at the target.

He thinks a lot, recalls and still does not find an explanation why people are so desperately clutching for life in this underground structure, called the Moscow Metro. After all, it’s hardly possible to call this “miserable existence” life.

Chapter twenty

Artem rises to the Ostankino tower and detects the black lair, which could be seen with the naked eye. Melnik got in touch, they adjusted the target, and the rocketman struck.

The lair was destroyed. But before that, Artyom lost consciousness and saw in a dream Black from his last dream, which he dreamed the day before. In it, the Black Man was waiting for him at VDNKh and called him the chosen one. It finally dawned on him that those black creatures were also sentient beings and had come to the world of people to help them. Due to the fact that they could only communicate mentally, people of course, did not hear them. The only one who understood and heard them was Artem. So they wanted to establish contact with it.

But, as usual, everything turned out awry. Rescuers, alas, were destroyed. And Artyom ... Artyom again went underground.

Conclusion

The summary of “Metro 2033” in chapters is only a “squeeze”. The book has a lot of different turns, descriptions and other plot branches, and heroes. Therefore, those who first decided to read this book, it would be better to evaluate it in the usual reading.
