The life story of Dean Arnold Korl, from whose hands at least 27 boys died, is not quite typical for brutal killers and maniacs: he did not meet his death in an electric chair or even in the walls of a prison cell. Dina was killed by a teenager - his accomplice. The young man was too afraid that one day the âLollipopâ would take him too. Our new material will introduce you to the story of a cruel maniac. We will talk about why for many years the rapist and killer went unpunished, as Dean managed to find a common language with the boys. We will also tell about the cover that he used.
Dean Corll Biography
Dean was born in 1939, his homeland is Indiana. The boy was the second child in a well-to-do family. That is, it cannot be said that the cause of the oddities could be a âdifficultâ childhood. The only thing Dean was unlucky with was health. In the early years of the boyâs life, doctors found serious heart problems.
The disease literally blocked Korlu's access to any sports sections and circles. At the same time, we must not forget that in American society not to be a member of any sports team means to be out of social life. Due to health problems, Dean Corll was aloof from school parties and girls' attention.
Of course, the boyâs parents understood that the door to the world of sports for Dean was closed forever. In order for him to make friends and do something, he was sent to a music school. Dean didnât really want to play the trombone, and in general the music attracted him little. However, he could not argue with his parents.
From a young age, Dean did not cause inconvenience to parents, always hiding from them his failures and problems. Perhaps this was the reason that his mother was not able to accept the information that her son was homosexual.
Relocation and divorce of parents
Dean's life went quite well, even despite the fact that his parents could not stop quarreling and scandal. In 1950, Korl's mom and dad even divorced, but soon renewed their relationship. In order to bring a fresh wind of change into their lives, the family went to Houston. However, relocation did not benefit parental relationships. This time they parted completely. In a new place, Dean's mother, Mary, met a new love.
Around the same time, Dean Corll will receive a nickname under which he will go down in history. The fact is that in order to escape from divorce from her husband, Mary decided to go into the confectionery business. Dean actively helped his mother develop candy production. It is worth noting that then he was still in school, it was classmates who began to call Dean "Candy".
Military service
When Dean turned 25, a war broke out in Vietnam. Feeling the desire to become famous, the young man volunteered to join the army. He passed the initial training, after which he mastered the work of radio engineering. He wasnât taken to Vietnam because of a heart condition, so the guy served in Texas. It is enough to look into official military papers to find out: Dean Corll was an excellent soldier.
True, if you believe the stories of colleagues, Dean hated military service. Not even a year had passed before he filed a letter of resignation. The reason was that he should help the family in the confectionery business.
Soon the young man was demobilized, he returned to Houston. Dean's close acquaintances said that he himself informed them when he returned from the army: it was this place that helped him realize his own homosexuality. Those friends to whom he did not report this, independently guessed about his orientation. The thing is that his external behavior has changed significantly, he behaved strangely, being in the company of underage guys.
It should be noted that, having returned home, Dean found a difficult period in the life of his motherâs new family. She did not manage to find a common language with her husband. This was followed by a divorce, a section of the business. Mary Corll left for Indiana. But her son decided to stay in Texas. Those who will later work on the case of the âGammeln Pied Piperâ Dean Korla will say: leaving the mother abruptly changed the fate of the guy. He was too obedient son, which means, if Mary had stayed in Texas, she could have kept him from killing.
Passion for killing
Law enforcement agencies in the United States of America have not been able to establish who exactly was the first victim of Lollipop. Dean Corll took this secret with him to the grave. However, the fact that it was in the 70s that he committed his first murder is absolutely certain.
Experts who will later study the Pied Piperâs bloody path are convinced that Dean understood that he was homosexual in the army. It is highly probable that during his military service his first such experience took place. For several years after returning from the army, he restrained himself. However, he then gave free rein and began to attend gay clubs. Of course, he kept it secret from his parents.
Most likely, the reason for the first murder was the fact that Dean Corll wanted to keep his gay orientation secret. The partner of the young man realized that he was trying to hide information, which means that you can blackmail him. Of course, Dean did not want to pay. Kill, of course, too. However, he had to do it. At the time of the murder, Corll realized that the process of taking his life gives him much more pleasure than sexual intercourse.
After the murder, âLollipopâ for some time behaved simply flawlessly, but in October 1970 he met an 11-year-old boy named Elmer Henley. As a sexual partner, Elmer did not suit Dean. However, in the life of "Candy" this guy lingered for a long time. Why? The thing is that Henley was familiar with all the local boys who traded in prostitution. It was they who became victims of the cruel maniac Dean Koll.
"They themselves agreed ..."
Much later, Elmer Henley will tell the cops: for three whole years he supplied Dean with gay boys. And then he adds that he was incredibly picky. He was not satisfied with all the guys that Elmer brought him. He sent some home. But those who were "lucky" to like Korl, went through all the circles of hell. At first the boys were raped, and then brutally killed. Often, Dean arranged the most real group orgies, in which David Brooks took part in addition to him and Elmer. In the case file you can find the information that the investigators told Henley:
Over the course of three years, I have helped Korll conduct orgies. I was commissioned to recruit new victims. At my disposal there were more than required. I knew all the guys in our area, and it was enough for me to drive to the freeway to find the guys who asked them to give a ride. I promised them a good party with drinks and drugs, and they immediately eagerly agreed.
The party ended in brutal violence, after which Dean Corll killed frivolous boys. However, soon a simple murder bored the maniac. Since 1972, he tested a huge number of different tortures on his victims. Now itâs hard to say whether Henley and Brooks were involved in these bullying. But it was Elmer who led the police to a mass grave, where the bodies of the victims of the maniac were discovered. Experts found that most of the victims were tortured torturely, most of them were neutered. Moreover, this procedure was carried out not with a scalpel or kitchen knife, but with teeth.

Most likely, Dean's addiction to such murders and tortures frightened his accomplices. Although in this case it is not entirely clear what they were thinking about for 3 years, when the Pied Piper killed any boy who was brought to him. Perhaps they themselves enjoyed great torture. In any case, the teenagers did not tell the real truth about why they took Dean's life. One thing is known: the killing was not spontaneous, as young people originally said.
Cover girl
On August 9, 1973, at 8:30 a young man called the call center of Pasadin. He said that a few minutes ago there was a murder for defense. At the address indicated by the young man, a police patrol drove out. The cops found a dead man, next to whom were three teenagers - two guys and one girl. They told the police: the man tried to rape them, and therefore they were forced to kill him. However, a further investigation by the police revealed that Elmer Henley, David Brooks and Rosalie Rhonda were not saying anything. True, later it turned out that the girl just did not lie.
Investigation details
The identity of the killer was established very quickly, it turned out to be Dean Arnold Corll. Next to his body was found a 22-caliber revolver, the drum of which was empty. However, this was not surprising - experts found all the bullets in the chest of the murdered. Rosalie claimed that she met this man the day before. He tried to rape her, and the guys just stood up for her. However, the police had many questions, because in the testimony of Elmer and David there were obvious inconsistencies.
The investigation at first glance of the apparent crime was surrounded by strange details. The testimonies of the teenagers varied, but did not raise any serious suspicions. Suddenly, one of the policemen had a very sound idea and he decided to take an interest in the personal life of the victim. Interrogations of those who were well acquainted with Dean led to the appearance of new questions, but practically did not give any answers.
Testimony of the bride
The cops were especially perplexed by the testimony of the bride Dean. The girl incredibly touching talked about the fact that they met for six years. However, during this time, asserted the maniacâs bride, they never slept. The girl said: this fact is direct evidence that her lover has high moral standards. But the police saw something completely different in her words. Maybe Koll was not interested in the female gender, because he had a non-traditional orientation? Not excluded. And he could meet with a girl so that others would not have guessed about his strange addictions. Of course, detectives pressed on teenagers who were found next to the body.
Scary confessions
The first "split" Henley. He told the police everything he knew about the addiction of a maniac. He said that he himself took part in some killings. It was interrogating Elmer that the cops found out the reason why young people took Dean's life:
He just rolled off the coils. Every day we waited for us to become the next victims. So they came up with this story with Rosalie. We knew that Dean did not like women, and therefore would have to pounce on her. Well, we like protecting her ... But we killed the monster! We have nothing to plant !!!
Henley showed the police the place where the remains of the victims of the lollipop maniac were buried. In a huge mass grave located next to Sam Reyburn Lake, investigators found the bodies of 27 boys.
Koll's accomplices were convicted. David was found guilty of killing two people, the punishment for him was a life sentence. Hanley, according to police, was involved in six murders, for each he received 99 years. By the way, for both criminals this form of punishment is a lot of luck, because the trial was held in the state where the death penalty was abolished. Otherwise, a fatal injection or electric chair awaited the young people.
Post scriptum
Investigations that continued after the young people were convicted revealed that there were actually more victims. Criminals killed not 27, but 44 people! True, the remains of 17 boys who did not return from the death party, could not be found. And Henley and Brooks were not eager to admit to something else, because they sincerely hoped for early release ...
