Choosing furniture for the living room is a pleasant but difficult task, because the modern market is saturated with models in all kinds of styles and design findings. A classic is ideal for large rooms with high ceilings. This style was created by aristocrats of the 17-18th century, but still remains relevant. It emphasizes the status of owners, looks luxurious, and materials of exceptionally high quality serve for tens or even hundreds of years. Modern styles are more concise and simple forms, high functionality and restrained, delicate decor. Furniture items are made from both expensive and more affordable materials, therefore they are available for most families.
Classic style furniture
The classic style in the interior is the embodiment of elegant chic, grace and prestige, a demonstration of the welfare of the owners of the apartment, not without good taste. The distinctive features of classic living room furniture include rigor, perfect symmetry, natural colors and shades, grace and an abundance of decorative details.
Classical furniture items are made exclusively from natural wood; any imitations are inappropriate here. Elegant, curved shapes are inherent in the silhouettes, the furniture is equipped with thin carved legs, rich gilding, bronze and brass inserts, enamel and decorative forging.
In the photo, the living room furniture is represented by a sofa group. Soft elements are made from luxurious fabrics: jacquard, velvet, satin, genuine leather. Upholstery color is mostly light, but there are also bright accents: scarlet, burgundy, emerald green, blue, purple.
Sofas, tables and coffee tables in the living room can be present in the singular, but chairs, armchairs, pouffes must certainly have a pair, as the classic requires perfect symmetry. The backs of upholstered furniture can be large or smaller, but always voluminous, with carved details, semicircular armrests.
Cabinet furniture is implemented in a separate or built-in format. Cabinets and slides for the living room are decorated with moldings, cornices, decorative columns and carved elements made of the same wood as the facade.
Modern style interior
Modern furniture is represented by a whole kaleidoscope of styles: hi-tech, modern, eco-style, loft, fusion. Each direction is unique and has its own special character, but some features are common to all:
- Simple geometric shapes. Modern living room furniture has a clear, strict silhouette, and symmetry is optional.
- The complete or almost complete absence of external fittings. The furniture handles are almost invisible, many manufacturers are introducing technological mechanisms that can completely abandon them: doors and drawers open with a slight pressure.
- Practicality and lack of decor. Living room furniture in a modern style is devoid of decorative, non-functional details, only practical and useful elements are used.
- Laconic design. Regardless of the chosen stylistic direction, furniture excludes all unnecessary and meaningless. The main distinguishing feature of our time is sophisticated simplicity. The lack of jewelry is offset by original, but functional accessories.
- Integrity. Design elements are in perfect harmony, the boundaries between the objects are blurred, one detail smoothly passes into another. The situation is perceived as a whole.
High tech furniture
High-tech is considered an artificial style that has incorporated individual features of minimalism and complemented them with technological components. The interior of the living room, decorated in the spirit of high-tech, lacks traditional elements of home comfort. The furniture has a concise, geometrically correct design, it merges with the decor and does not decorate it, but guarantees exceptional comfort. Decorative elements are completely absent, but they are compensated by high-tech decorations, for example, built-in lighting.
High-tech living room furniture is made of plastic, glass, metal, polyester, nylon. Natural materials, such as wood, are almost never used. The facades of the cabinets have a glossy surface in which bright illumination is reflected. Upholstered furniture is characterized by lightness and conciseness.
Art Nouveau furniture
The name of the "modern" style is translated into Russian as "modern" and therefore is misleading to many. This stylistic trend was formed in the 1880s and was popular until 1914, in essence it is much closer to the classics than to the trendy trends. Art Nouveau furniture is made of natural wood, has soft, rounded shapes, calm, as if dusted, shades and soft plant patterns prevail in the upholstery.
Living room furniture is furnished with a sofa and a pair of armchairs with a dark wood frame and light upholstery. The kit should be made in a single design. In the center of the composition is a low table made of wood or glass. The decor will be complemented by several elegant accessories.
Eco-Style Furniture
Living room furniture in eco-style is made of natural wood, has a rather massive silhouette and an extremely natural shape: rectangular, with smooth bends, roughly processed and covered with transparent varnish.
Colored paint is not used in this case, but tinting is allowed, which does not hide the natural structure of the tree. For the upholstery of armchairs and sofas, textiles of calm, natural shades are used, plain or with a floral pattern. Also, wicker sofas and armchairs made of rattan, bamboo or vine harmoniously fit into the environmentally friendly atmosphere of the room. Such familiar living room furniture as a wall, in this case, can be made of wood of a similar shade.
Furniture in fusion style
This style is an "organized mess" - textures, decor, shapes and lines can be borrowed from different eras, and the atmosphere as a whole looks luxurious and bright. Upholstery of furniture for the living room is represented by rich materials: genuine leather, wool, furs, satin. Fusion welcomes antiques that contrast stylishly with other, more modern furnishings.
Loft style furniture
The loft style is characterized by urban decoration of walls and ceilings, and the furniture can be any: ultra-modern, antique, artsy or minimalist. In such an atmosphere, furniture for the living room, borrowed from different eras, harmoniously combines: an expensive leather sofa in a classic style gets along well with a glass table in retro style.
Modern furniture is characterized by high functionality and practicality, while classical furniture is more characterized by decorative elements and expensive materials. A single style is rarely used in the interior of a living room, so with a competent approach, you can combine all the best from several stylistic directions.
