As a rule, pages in Word are usually numbered. This is done not just for the visual attractiveness of the document, but in order to better navigate it, especially if we are going to print it. After all, you just have to mix up the sheets, and arranging them in the right order will be quite difficult. In the article we will look at how to make and how to remove page numbers in Word (in versions 2003, 2007 and 2010).
2010 Word Numbering
Let's start with one of the most popular versions of this text editor:
- To create page numbers in the Word 2010 edition, go to the Insert tab and select the Page Number menu.
- A window will pop up in which you should choose the numbering location that you prefer: at the top of the page or at the bottom, in the center, from any edge or on any of the page margins.
- When you select the desired option, the numbering in the Word will appear automatically.
Removing numbering in Word 2010
Numbering deletion is accompanied by even simpler actions:
- To do this, open the "Insert" tab.
- Open the "Page Number" item and left-click on the "Delete Page Number" item.
As a result of these actions, all numbering in the document will be deleted.
2007 Word Numbering
Now consider the earlier version - 2007 Word. It’s also easy to insert pagination in it:
- Here we still have the same “Insert” tab and the “Page Number” button with a drop-down menu containing the same lines.
- Here we can choose the future position of page numbers: in the margins, at the top or bottom of the pages of the document, in the center or from the right and left edges.
2007 Numbering Removal
As in Word 2010, deleting page numbers in Word 2007 is very simple. All in the same menu “Page Number” click on the item “Delete page numbers”. Page numbers will be automatically deleted.
Numbering in the Word 2003
Let's consider how to make and how to remove page numbers for the 2003 version in Word . Here, almost everything is the same, only a slightly different design of menu items.
- So, in order to insert the numbering, use the "Insert" tab.
- In the pop-up window, select the line "Page numbers ...".
- As a result of this, we will have a window where you can choose the desired numbering position.
Unlike subsequent versions, there are the following options:
- bottom or top of the page;
- left, center, right, inside, outside
It is worth noting that there is no way to put the page number on the side margins of the document, which may make some users refuse to use this version of this text editor.
2003 Numbering Removal
Now let’s look at how to remove page numbers in Word. Unlike subsequent versions, in Word 2003 there is no special button to automatically remove the numbering. Therefore, you will need to double-click the page number with the left mouse button and manually delete it by clicking the Delete button. But this action is enough to be done on only one page, after which the numbering will disappear throughout the document.
Page Number Format
It is also worth noting that in all versions of the Word presented in this article, starting from the 2003 version and ending with the 2010 version, the “Page Number” menu has the option “Page Number Format”.
In versions of Word 2007 and 2010, this item is located in a pop-up window after clicking on the Page Number menu immediately after the options for numbering and before the item “Delete Page Number”. When you click on it, the "Page Number Format" window appears.
In the Word 2003 text editor, this window can be opened in the Page Numbers menu of the Insert tab by clicking on the Format ... button.
Formats
In this window in all versions of the Word absolutely identical actions are available. For example, you can choose the following number format:
- Arabic numerals;
- the same Arabic numerals, only between hyphens;
- uppercase latin letters;
- Latin capital letters
- small roman numerals;
- large roman numerals.
In addition, you can include the chapter number here by checking the box next to the line of the same name. After this action, the items “Begin with style” and “Separator” become active. In these points, you can also select the desired option. If we do not need chapter numbers, then the checkmark can be removed.
You can also select numbering options. There are two points:
- "Proceed". This item indicates consecutive numbering from the first page of the document.
- “Start with” - this item allows you to start numbering a document with an arbitrary number, which can be specified here. For example, you can start numbering from the 5th page, in which case the figure “5” will be placed on the first sheet of the document, “6” on the 2nd and so on.
Finally
We examined how to make and how to remove page numbers for Word 2003, 2007, and 2010 in Word. Pagination is a very useful feature that allows you not to get confused in sections of a document, especially after we print it. An important plus is that it is quite simple to make and remove Word’s page numbers in almost any version, since the design of these text editors is very similar.
