Theater History

Samara Puppet Theater

The Samara Puppet Theater owes much of its development and development to Sergei Vladimirovich Obraztsov and Evgeny Sergeevich Demmen. The exact date of its discovery is unknown. The first information about a professional puppet troupe is dated 1932. It was assembled by Akim Lotsmanov, who was a director, and decorator, and artist, and screenwriter, and sculptor. The first troupe consisted of only 5 artists. A. Lotsmanovโ€™s dolls were very beautiful and looked like they were alive.

To enhance the professionalism of the actors, Evgeny Demmen was invited to the city. He held a workshop, which included practical classes.

In the first performances puppets were involved. In 1937, parsley performances entered the repertoire.

During the war, almost all male actors went to the front. All roles were performed by women. In 1945, the actors who survived on the fronts returned to the troupe. At the same time, young talents joined her.

In 1947, artists began working with cane dolls. They are the most spectacular, as it creates the illusion that they are amazed and talk on their own, which creates a sense of magic.

In 1956, the Samara Puppet Theater received its own building on Novo-Sadovaya Street, house number 17. The troupe gradually became more and more popular. More and more spectators began to come to performances.

A frequent guest was Sergei Obraztsov. He generously shared his experience with Samara puppeteers, and also invited them to Moscow at a conference.

The first performance for adults Samaras staged in 1964. It was "Divine Comedy."

In the early 80s, the Samara Puppet Theater became one of the most popular in the country. During this period, he began to go on tour and take part in various festivals.

In 1991, a department of puppet theater actors was opened at the Samara Institute of Culture. Then the first course of students was recruited. In 1996, they graduated and joined the theater troupe. At that time there were already twenty plays in the repertoire.

The Samara Theater is different in that its dolls are beautiful, colorful, interesting. They are made by professionals. In the early 90s, these wonderful masters of their craft Valery Arkadyevich Korotkov. There are few of them, but they manage to do tremendous work. Among them are a master props, a dressmaker, and a mechanical designer. The success of theater performances depends not only on the actors, but also on all these people. Indeed, if the dolls turn out to be ugly and the audience does not like them, then the productions will no longer have such a stunning success.

Today, there are sixteen actors in the troupe. The music for the productions is written by Samara composer V. Maximov. In 1997, V. Korotkov was replaced by Evgeny Petrovich Gorbunov, who still works in the theater.
