SVG extension - what to open?

Who does not know, SVG files is an image made using vector graphics technology. The logical conclusion follows that it can be opened in graphic editors, but the question remains "in which?" In this article we will tell you how to open SVG.

Program No. 1: GIMP

Speaking about how to open SVG, initially it’s worth bringing a powerful text editor that is in the public domain - this is GIMP. If in a nutshell about the program, then it is a free analogue of Photoshop. So, to open an SVG file in it, you need:

1. Having launched the program, click on the "File" button and select "Open" from the menu. Also, this action is performed by pressing Ctrl + O.
2. A file manager will appear. In it, go to the directory where the SVG file is located, select it and click "Open."
3. A new window will appear in which you can set the image size and placement settings. It is recommended not to change anything, as the program selects the optimal parameters on its own, so just click "OK."

After completing these three simple points, the image will be opened in the program. With it you can perform all the same actions as with any other.

Now you know the first way than opening SVG. But GIMP is not the only program for this.

Program No. 2: Adobe Illustrator

Adobe Illustrator is more popular than GIMP, but it has one drawback - a paid subscription, which requires considerable financial costs. But it will help its lucky owners to open the SVG file, which is what we are going to do now.

1. Launch the application and, having opened the File menu, click on the Open item. Or use the already known combination of Ctrl + O.
2. In the file manager window that appears after the previous steps, you need to go to the folder with the SVG file and open it by double-clicking LMB.
3. Following this, the "Missing Profile" window should appear. This does not always happen, but very often. In it you need to select the item "Leave unchanged" and click the "OK" button. If you understand all the nuances, you can set the parameters yourself by selecting the second item.

Now the selected image will be added to Adobe Illustrator. You already know how to open SVG, at least there are two programs suitable for these purposes. But there are many more, so go to the next one.

Program No. 3: XnView

We turn from serious graphic editors to the usual "viewers" of images, because you do not always need to edit the image, sometimes you just want to see it. And we will deal with the program XnView.

1. Launch the application and open the "Explorer" window by pressing Ctrl + O in it.
2. In the "Explorer", go to the directory with the SVG file and open it.
3. After that, the image will be open, but you can notice a third-party inscription in its central part. It appears due to the use of the unpaid CAD Image DLL plugin. Accordingly, in order to remove it, you need to buy a plugin.

This program, of course, is not suitable for editing photos, because there are few tools in it, and the text on top spoils everything. But, if you just need to get acquainted with the contents of the picture, it will do just fine.

Program No. 4: LibreOffice Draw

Few people know, but some presentation programs work great with the SVG format. Now we will talk about the LibreOffice Draw application.

1. Launch it and click on the "Open file" button or, as you already understood, press the Ctrl + O buttons.
2. In Explorer, navigate to the SVG file, and then click Open.
3. The image will be loaded into the program and added as a separate presentation slide. In the future, you can create a project with it, but the program is perfect for normal viewing of pictures.

Program No. 5: Google Chrome

Almost everyone knows about Google Chrome - this is the most popular browser. Surprisingly, it is capable of opening an SVG file.

1. Launch your browser and press Ctrl + O.
2. In the "Explorer" select the desired file.
3. It will open as a separate tab.

Now you know how to open the SVG format, you have five programs to choose from, but it is up to you to decide which one to use.
