The vast majority of users (you may also be among them) neglect the function that allows you to backup Windows 10. Incidentally, it’s in vain.
A backup of Windows 10 can quite often literally help out of a very complex and seemingly insoluble situation.
Why do I need a backup
Many people think that the system can “collapse” with anyone: a neighbor, friend, acquaintance, relative - but not with them. As if they are special and protected by the Great Chinese firewall. But this is not so: everyone can have an error in the system, regardless of anything.
Perhaps this will be a consequence of a hacker attack, or maybe the user himself deleted or ruined the files and commands important for the functioning of the system.
The result will still be one: the operating system will stop starting, and a huge amount of information stored in it will go into oblivion. There is only one way to insure yourself against such an outcome: by creating a backup copy of Windows 10. It will help to quickly restore all the data stored on the disk.
In this article, you will learn how to backup Windows 10. Also, get acquainted with the programs that allow you to back up and urgently restore the operating system.
Moreover, the article will touch on the theme of the mobile version of the OS from Microsoft with a description of the instructions for creating a backup of Windows Phone 10.
Backup using the system tool. First way
The system itself has a backup function . To activate it, just follow the instructions below, and then there will not be any problems associated with this process.
Firstly, you need to get into the “Control Panel” and find the backup tab there. It will be signed accordingly.
Secondly, in the window that opens, you will need to go to the system image creation section. A tab will appear in front of the user. In it, you need to determine the place where the image of the operating system will be copied in the form in which it is now.
Thirdly, after choosing the place where the system will be recorded, you need to click "Next" and go to the section where you can additionally select files and disks that will be backed up and written to new media with the system.
Next, click on the backup button and start creating the backup copy of Windows 10. The system will ask if you want to create a disk from which the OS will be restored. The answer is obvious: yes.
The backup process starts. It lasts an average of 20 minutes: it all depends on the performance of the personal computer.
After completion, you can continue to work on the computer, provided that you removed the media on which the system image was recorded. By the way, the role of this media can be a CD, flash drive or one of the non-system drives of Windows.
Backup using DISM. Second way
Now, find out how to back up Windows 10 using the DISM utility, which is built into the operating system. In general, it is difficult to say whether this method of copying is easier than the one described above or not. All people have their own preferences. In any case, to back up with DISM, you need to follow the steps that will be given below.
First of all, you need to click on the Start interface icon with the right mouse button. After clicking, a list should appear. In it you need to open the admin command line. A text console will appear.
In it you need to enter the Diskpart command, then list volume, with which you will remember the disk with the system, and then exit. In conclusion, you need to write the following: Dism / Capture-Image / ImageFile: E: \ * name of the Windows 10 backup * .wim / CaptureDir: F: \ / Name: Windows.
F - the disk on which the system is installed.
E - disk where the image will be stored.
Naturally, the command enclosed in asterisks must be entered without *.
After all operations are correctly performed, a copied image of the system will appear on the specified drive, which is just suitable for its restoration in the event of any force majeure.
Backup using Aomei Backupper Standard LiveCD. Third way
You can back up not only using standard utilities, but also using third-party software. One such software is LiveCD Aomei Backupper Standard.
The program has a very convenient and simple interface. Probably, it is with its help that it is more convenient to backup Windows 10.
Once the utility has been downloaded, you need to open it, and then find the Backup section in the side menu (on the right). You will need to select the System Backup function in it.
A new tab will appear, in which, opposite the Task Name column, you must enter the name of the created image (Step 1 - Step 1). In the same window, you should define the medium that will save the archive with the system. You will need to specify this in Step 2. On this line, the user can easily find out where the Windows 10 backup is stored.
As soon as all parameters are specified, the system will start the backup.
Mobile Windows 10 Backup
In addition to PC versions, Microsoft has released a mobile version of Windows 10, which is called Windows 10 Mobile.
It also provides a system backup function. Moreover, by default, an image is created for all media files, documents and SMS, calls and bookmarks in the system browser or application.
To do this, you need to go to the Settings application in the Update and Security section.
There you need to find an archiving service. You need to put the toggle switch in the “on” position under the line where it is proposed to create a backup copy of the content.
It is interesting that the user can independently choose which parameters will be backed up and which will not. This can be done using the “Other Options” section.
However, if it was possible to independently determine on a PC where the system image is recorded, on mobile devices everything is automatically saved to the OneDrive account.
System Restore
If the backup was performed in the first way, then in case of a critical error and incorrect operation of the system, go to the "Shutdown" section in the "Start" menu, select a reboot point and click on it while holding down the Shift button.
When rebooting, the additional settings screen opens, where you need to click on "Restore the system image". After selecting this item, the system will look for a backup and try to install it, so you need to consider that the media must be inserted into the PC (if it is a flash drive, CD-ROM or external hard drive).
System Recovery via DISM
In the event that the Windows image was recorded using DISM, you need to open the administrator command line (as was done above), where you will need to enter:
- diskpart.
- list volume.
- We remember on which disk the backup is stored (in the column "Name") + the disk that will contain the system.
- select volume 5.
- select volume 6.
- format fs-FS quick.
- assign last = V.
- exit.
- dism / apply-mage / imagefile: * the disk where the backup is stored *: \ * backup name * .wim / index: 1 / ApplyDir: 6: \.
- bcdboot: 6: \ Windows / s V :.
- diskpart.
- select volume 5.
- remove letter = V.
5 - disk number with the system.
6 - disk number where the system will be installed.
V is the Latin letter to be assigned to the system partition.
Then you will need to restart the PC, and the system will be restored.
System Restore via Aomei Backupper Standard LiveCD
To restore the operating system using this utility, you need to open this program and go to the Restore section, which is located in the side menu. The program itself will find where the system image is stored, and will offer to install it. This is only possible if the media with the image is connected to the PC or if it is some kind of disk inside the system.
In any case, the path to the backup can be specified independently.
After all the settings (if they were made), click on Start Restore, which will be highlighted in orange.
As it turned out, creating a Windows system image is a snap. The main thing that needs to be learned: do not neglect the backup function and it is better to use it if necessary.
Who knows what data you will need in the future. It is better to make their image, so as not to lose a trace in the future.
All these actions are applicable to the mobile version of the operating system from Microsoft, because now users store a huge amount of important information on smartphones and tablets - mobile devices that are always at hand. Yes, cloud services in Russia and the CIS are not so popular yet.
