About the theater
Theater (Penza) is rooted in amateur performances of the 18th century. They played out in booths at fairs. Then there was a period of serf theaters and public. The first professional actors appeared in the troupes of the city in 1796.
The twentieth century with its realities has repeatedly brought changes to the life of the theater and its repertoire. First there was World War I, then the revolution and the Great Patriotic War.
In the postwar years, the theater (Penza) became very popular. In the 50-60s, the troupe began to go on tour and take part in festivals.
Since 2007, the main director is Vyacheslav Gunin.
In 2008, the theater building was damaged by fire. All scenery, costumes, equipment and interior spaces were destroyed. In 2010, the construction of a new theater premises was completed. In the same year, S.V. became artistic director. Kazakov, and the appointment of A.V. Fomin. The troupe replenished with young personnel. Children's performances appeared in the theater's repertoire in 2011.
In May 2014 at the N.Kh. festival Rybakova in Tambov, the actress of the Penza drama Galina Evgenievna Repnaya was awarded the prize “Actress of Russia”. The award was awarded to her for playing the role of Arina Petrovna in the production of "Lord Golovlev." Actor Nikolai Shapovalov was awarded a special jury prize. He was awarded for playing the role of Petenka in the same performance.
The most notable premieres of the last two seasons: "Puss in Boots", "Glass Menagerie" and "Monsieur Amilkar".
In 2014, the theater toured various cities in Israel. The performances “Hero of Our Time”, “Divas” were shown to the public of this country. The troupe visited such cities of Israel as Rishon Lezion, Ashdod, Jerusalem, etc.
