Kremenchug Automobile Plant is one of the most powerful enterprises in Ukraine. It specializes in commercial trucks. In particular, these are dump trucks. One of these is the KrAZ-65055 car. The car was first born in 1997. Serial production of the machine continues to this day. What is the KrAZ-65055? Technical characteristics and not only - further in our article.
Appearance
The dump truck has a brutal massive appearance. The design is dominated by rough square lines. The car has a huge iron bumper, halogen headlights and separate turn signals. The hood of the car, unlike the "Americans", is made of metal. There are also slots for ventilation of the engine compartment on the sides. And on top - a powerful cutout for air intake. For ease of landing, a metal footboard is provided in the machine. The same is available on the front of the bumper - the truck is very high, and climbing under the hood is quite difficult without it. The cabin has no berth. This machine is intended for daily use only.

As for the sizes, they are standard for a dump truck of this class. The total length of the KrAZ-65055 truck is 8.35 meters, width - 2.5 meters, height - 2.87 meters. Also, the car has a high ground clearance. The ground clearance of the KrAZ truck is almost 30 centimeters. This is not surprising, because the car is not intended for asphalt roads. This is a reliable and simple dump truck that works daily in quarries and other places where there is no road surface.
Salon
The interior has not changed in the car since the 90s. So, the old dials, a flat metal panel and a huge double-spoke steering wheel are used here. The seats have a limited range of adjustments and lack lumbar support.
In terms of comfort, the car is not intended for long-haul flights. The cabin is quite noisy and sometimes there is a draft. The cabin is designed for only two people (driver and one passenger).
Specifications
Kremenchug plant closely cooperated with the Yaroslavl Motor Plant. So, for the KrAZ dump truck, the YaMZ model 238DE2 power unit is provided. This is an eight-cylinder V-shaped diesel engine with a displacement of 14.9 liters.
The maximum power of the Yaroslavl engine is 330 horsepower. But, despite this ratio of volume and power, the unit has unmeasured traction. At two thousand revolutions, the almost 15-liter YaMZ produces 1274 Nm of torque. This parameter is important for such commercial equipment. After all, the dump truck works constantly under high load.
Transmission
Paired with this unit is a manual gearbox manufactured by YaMZ for 8 stages. The car also uses a dry single-plate clutch YaMZ-183. The design is quite reliable and can withstand huge loads.
Dynamics, expense
Acceleration to a hundred kilometers per hour was not measured (if only because the peak indicator for KrAZ is 90 km / h). But in terms of fuel consumption, the Ukrainian dump truck is more economical than the Tatar (KamAZ-55111). For a hundred, the Yaroslavl engine consumes 34 liters of fuel. A tank volume of 250 liters is enough for 735 kilometers of driving without refueling.
Chassis
The suspension at the dump truck is reinforced, which made it possible to increase the carrying capacity to 18 tons. For comparison, at KamAZ this indicator is only 10 tons with the same layout. The drive of the KrAZ 65055th model is carried out on two rear axles (wheel formula - 6 x 4). Front mounted pivot beam. This design has been used on trucks since the days of the Soviet Union.
Behind are bridges with balancer springs. The vibration damping is carried out by hydraulic shock absorbers. They are located in front of the KrAZ 65055th model. The steering is complemented by a hydraulic booster. But even with it, drivers have to make significant efforts to turn the wheels.
Cost
The initial price for a new dump truck in Russia is 2 million 700 thousand rubles. KrAZ is equipped with a powerful cabin heater and air conditioning system. The machine also withstands temperature extremes and can confidently work at -45 0 . Therefore, the dump truck is actively used in all latitudes by many road and construction companies.
