There are two options for page breaks in the Word program, but it should be noted right away that their role is only one thing - to transfer text or another fragment of the document to the next sheet. This method is most often used when printing.
As for the variations of breaks, that is, automatic is the one that occurs when the text goes beyond the limits of one sheet. Such a gap cannot be adjusted, however, this is not necessary. The second is set manually, in the place specified by the user.
Next, some ways of removing page breaks in Word will be discussed. It is worth saying right away that the most popular methods will be presented. Deletion will occur in the 2016 version of the program, however, a page break in the 2007 Word and earlier can be removed in a similar way.
Manual Break Removal
The method to remove the page break in Word, which will be presented now, is the simplest one. It implies that you yourself established a gap in some place.
The first thing to do is change the display mode of the document. The default is always the "Page Layout" mode, but you need to switch to the "Draft" mode:
- To do this, go to the “View” tab and in the “Modes” area, click on “Draft”.
- Now you need to highlight the gap. This is done by clicking on the dotted line. Once the object has become selected, press the DELETE key.
This is one way to remove page breaks in Word. It is very simple, but it also happens that it does not help. Therefore, a few more methods for removing gaps should be considered.
Removing a hard gap
There is such a thing as a “hard gap”. This is the name of the gap that was added by pressing CTRL + ENTER or from a special menu. Now we will analyze the second method. How to remove page break in Word, if it is "hard":
- The easiest way is to use the Find tool for these purposes. To call it, click on the corresponding button on the top panel or using the key combination CTRL + F.
- Now enter the search query "^ m" (without quotes) or just copy it.
- After the search is over, you will find all the hard gaps. And to remove them, select them and press the DELETE button.
Change Intervals
Sometimes a gap can occur due to incorrectly specified intervals between paragraphs (before and after a paragraph). In order to remove a page break in the Word, if it occurred due to incorrectly specified intervals, you need to:
- Enter the appropriate section, having previously selected one paragraph before the break.
- From the "Home" tab, in the "Paragraph" area, click on the special icon. You can see its exact location in the picture below.
- After clicking, the "Paragraph" window will appear on the screen. In it you need to pay attention to the "Interval" section, namely, "Before" and "After". If they were the cause of the gap, then the values in these fields will be unusually large.
- As you might guess, to remove such a gap, you need to change the values to acceptable. Or set the value to "Auto", so that the program itself determines the interval.
After all the manipulations done, you can safely click the "OK" button and enjoy the result.
