A modern kitchen should not only be functional, it should also have an original interior design to make it comfortable to work and relax. It is desirable that the selected interior of the kitchen corresponds to the general style of the apartment, but if this is impossible to achieve for any reason, then any other, as close as possible, will do. As in any living room, here maximum comfort is achieved due to the elements of the furniture present. In particular, it is a table, chairs, built-in kitchen appliances, cabinets, bedside tables and, of course, a sink. Installing a sink is a separate item in the kitchen equipment.
Material for the manufacture of sinks
Traditionally, in our apartments, the sink is installed in the corner of the kitchen, closer to the cold water inlet point. But very often, such an arrangement can violate the aesthetic appearance of the kitchen if the sink is not combined with other elements of the kitchen furniture. Therefore, often the installation of the sink is carried out elsewhere in order to give the kitchen design originality and naturalness.
As a rule, in most cases, stainless steel and porcelain stoneware are used for the manufacture.
Porcelain sinks are less commonly used in the kitchen, as they are heavy and unstable to mechanical damage.
They are mainly used in cases where stainless steel does not combine with the surrounding interior.
Porcelain stoneware is the most popular material for the bathroom than for the kitchen, since it is unacceptable to use steel objects.
In kitchen conditions, stainless steel sinks are more familiar to us. Stainless steel has good characteristics. And products from it do not lend themselves to mechanical damage and corrosion, as well as to the effects of chemical elements, often included in detergent components.
There are three types of stainless steel sinks :
- mortise;
- built-in;
- waybill.
Installation of a mortise- type sink is carried out in a special opening cut in the countertop. Its edges fit perfectly on the surface of the countertop.
Installing a built- in sink is much more difficult, but the effort is worth it.
The edges of such a sink are smooth, designed to ensure that its surface is flush with the countertop.
This is achieved due to the fact that the laminate is carefully removed from the surface of the countertop at the sink’s landing site, and the sink is installed in the grooves made. As a result, both surfaces are obtained at the same level, they look like one.
The third option is less common, as this is an old method used when installing steel kitchen sinks. This type of product has edges bent in the shape of the letter "t", the installation of the sink is not even done on the countertop, but on the cabinet itself, since the height of the bends is equal to the wall thickness.
Porcelain sinks in the kitchen are usually mortise and installed in the countertop.
Other types of installation are not used in the kitchen. In the bathroom, in most cases, the ceramic granite sink is fixed using special brackets on the wall surface.
Regardless of what type of sink will be selected, it must be remembered that its installation must be carried out strictly in level and without distortions.
It is also very important to know that the pipe going from the riser directly to the sink should be at an angle of about 3 degrees for each meter.
