Bovanenkovo Airport is a strategic object of the Yamal Peninsula and the northernmost airport in our country. Currently unknown to most of our citizens, unless they are field workers and the surrounding area. It belongs to the airport of Gazprom Avia LLC (a subsidiary of PJSC Gazprom) and for the most part is used to deliver shift workers to the field. It accepts planes and helicopters for any purpose.
Location
The airport is located near the working village of Bovanenkovo, 40 kilometers from the coast of the Kara Sea, in the north-west of Yamal.
The nearest district center (Yar-Sale village) is 400 km away. As an administrative object, it belongs to the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
Functions
Bovanenkovo Airport carries out both passenger and cargo flights, as well as special flights. It is planned to further expand the use of the airdrome in order to service the Northern Sea Route as an alternate airdrome for the use of the Ministry of Emergencies, FSB, and the Ministry of Defense of Russia. With its help, communication with the mainland was simplified.
Passengers should remember that there are no special amenities in the airport building. Maintenance is carried out on a rotational basis. There are no usual food points, hotels, post offices at the airport.
The airfield has one artificial runway with a length of 2625 meters and currently has nine parking lots for air assets. True, according to the plan, the area is equipped for eight additional.
The airfield has a storage of fuels and lubricants. Fuel is delivered by rail to the Karskaya station, and from there it enters the aerodrome storage facility via a special pipeline. There is a fuel quality control laboratory in Bovanenkovo and a gas station that meets all safety requirements.
Bovanenkovo Airport has a building that houses service and passenger services. At an o'clock it is capable to pass a stream from 50 people, in plans of the enterprise to expand a passenger flow to 150 people per hour.
The main directions of flights are Nadym and Syktyvkar, Moscow and Tyumen. All planes depart according to a special schedule. The flight schedule can be found on the on- line airport board on the website or in the airport task.
History
The first flight was completed in 2013 and was technical. It was dedicated to the discovery of the eponymous oil and gas condensate field, giant in scale, known since 1971 and named after Vadim Bovanenkov, a Soviet geologist.
Previously, they got here on all-terrain vehicles from Salekhard. Before the opening of the airfield, a helipad was equipped , and shift workers were delivered from Nadym by helicopters.
The construction was carried out in three stages. First, as mentioned above, a heliport was built, then a winter runway, and then a concrete one. Difficult weather conditions did not contribute to the rapid construction.
Climate
Bovanenkovo Airport is located in the subarctic tundra zone, and accordingly, there are very difficult weather conditions.
