However, we must not forget that if you do not protect your wireless network with a password, everyone and sundry and everyone who will be in the radio signal area of the router can connect to it. This is fraught with a drop in data transfer speed , as well as unnecessary costs for unauthorized traffic used. First, let's find out if the settings for the router are entered correctly. If so, then when you connect the device to it, it will be able to access the Internet. If this is not possible, this indicates that the router is not configured. Enter all the necessary data according to the instructions of your device, as well as provided by the provider (login, password, type of connection, and so on).
Setting by any device
When the settings are entered, and the computer, connecting to the router, goes to the Internet, it is time to figure out how to password protect the Wi-Fi. This is done directly from a laptop or computer. Moreover, it doesn’t matter how these devices are connected - using a cable or wirelessly. By the way, this can also be done using a smartphone or tablet.
We launch absolutely any browser on your device. When it boots, in the address bar we write the IP address of the router. As a rule, it is like this: 192.168.0.1, but if at this address it is not possible to enter the router interface, try 192.168.1.1. Some of them will work for sure.
Interface access
When the interface is loaded, a dialog box will appear in front of you on the monitor screen, requiring you to enter a login with a password. Typically, the default value is "admin" in both fields. If you suddenly entered this value, but the device doesn’t let you into your settings, there can be two reasons.
First one. Someone who set up this router changed their username and password. In this case, you should check this information with the wizard. If this is not possible, you need to return to the device’s default settings and repeat the login procedure. The second one. Your router has other values. Basically, the manufacturer indicates them on the bottom of the wireless device or in the instructions, so look there.
When you have successfully completed authorization, the computer will show you a page with the settings of the router. In all devices, it looks different, but the structure and configuration principle are almost the same. True, not all equipment has firmware that supports the Russian language. In this case, difficulties may arise for those users who do not speak or do not speak enough English.
Strong authentication algorithm
So, we go to the manual settings section and find the item in it that is responsible for configuring security. This is where the password setting procedure will take place. You should find (it will be easy) the network authentication tab (it may be called differently, but the meaning will come down to this). Here you will be offered several authentication algorithms. I won’t talk about all of them, because today WPA2-PSK is considered the most reliable of them. While there is nothing better against hacking.
When you select this item, a field should appear that will be called “Encryption Key”. In it you must enter the combination of characters that you want to enter in order to be able to connect to your wireless network. I strongly recommend using a complex combination for the password, which will consist of both numbers and Latin letters, preferably a different case. Password must be at least eight characters long.
