The Operetta Theater (Pyatigorsk) is located in a beautiful old building, built in 1914. At first there was the All-Class Club, the project of which was created by the architect A.I. Kuznetsov. The opening of the building took place in 1915. It had a theater hall, a restaurant, a library (one of the best in the city), a billiard room, and a ballroom. Initially, there was no troupe of its own, and the entertainers from the Moscow theater-cabaret “Bat” came to entertain the audience. Spectators were offered operettas, comedies and ballet performances. With the coming to power of the Bolsheviks, the building was turned into a People’s House, where revolutionary rallies were held. During the Civil War, the building was looted. When Pyatigorsk again became the Soviet city, the operetta theater (its building) turned into the Workers' Palace. There were exhibitions, performances and a library. Then the building was renamed again in the Palace of Trade Unions. In 1925, it was renamed. Now the Karl Marx club has gained Pyatigorsk. The operetta theater has turned into a regional drama. In 1935, the troupe went on tour. At this time, the theater building was expanded, refurbished and turned into a hostel. On March 10, 1939, actors from Chechnya arrived in the city of Pyatigorsk. The operetta theater from this day began its existence. The artists already knew well, as they had been here on tour more than once. Among the actors of the troupe was the legendary Mahmud Esambaev.

The very first performance that the theater gave was the operetta "Wedding in the Robin" by B. Alexandrov. The repertoire included Viennese classical operettas, musical comedies of Soviet composers. During the Great Patriotic War Pyatigorsk was occupied by the Germans. The Operetta Theater is partially evacuated to the Far East. The artists, who did not have time to evacuate, continued to give performances. At that time, the city saw such performances as “Blue Mazurka”, “Silva”, “Emilia Galotti”, “Priestess of Fire”, “Colombina”, “Brazilian Aunt”, “Dowry”, “Merry Widow”, “Marietta” and "Lady with Camellias." Leaving the city, the German invaders set fire to the theater building. The townspeople managed to save him. The Pyatigorsk operetta became known as the Stavropol Regional Theater of Musical Comedy. At the end of the 20th century, interest in operetta began to decline, the troupe stopped going on tour, the building was dilapidated, artists were getting old. In 1997, the name changed again. Now it is the Stavropol Regional Operetta Theater. To date, all difficulties have been overcome. The theater is flourishing, the building has been restored. But the problem of lack of staff remains, and the main reason is the low salary.
