A huge number of neologisms, albeit characteristic of that era, but nevertheless manifested in Mayakovsky's lyrics, are especially vivid - this is what distinguishes him from a number of other poets of the early twentieth century.
Chasing the ideal
It is impossible to say that Mayakovsky wrote verses that are easy to learn without any effort. Art historians say that the Iron poet spent hours working on rhymes, filling them with whole notebooks. He polished his every poem to perfection, counting stressed and unstressed syllables, maintaining a balance between them and ideally selecting a rhythm even for non-rhyming parts of poems. True, Mayakovsky’s poems, which are easy to learn, almost stopped writing during this period: for reasons that are not completely clear, vivid images of his lyrics sank into the everydayness of the lines surrounding them. We can say that the twenties are associated with a kind of crisis in the work of the poet.
Party affiliation
Many perceive him exclusively as the author of the lyrics glorifying the Soviet Union in all its manifestations. What does only one “Passport” stand for: this Mayakovsky verse made it a real anthem of the society of that time, moreover, it was precisely this poem that was memorized by heart for many more years, when studying the poet’s work. One of his lines, “I get it from wide trousers,” went out to the people, becoming almost the most quoted in Russian literature, being beaten in dozens of aphorisms and imprinted tightly in the minds of people. Moreover, most of the lyrics for children, for example, “Who to be”, “Horse-fire”, “What is good and what is bad”, are also saturated with revolutionary motives. But few people know that the poet was at odds with the Communist Party: he left it in the first decade of the twentieth century when, after another arrest, he was released on bail of his mother for his fascination with the ideas of the Social Democratic Labor Party. Therefore, the fact that so much was done by non-party people for the power of the Soviets, that is, one who was not considered a person then, is truly amazing. Many have their favorite poems by Mayakovsky associated with his love of Lilia Brik - a woman who had a tremendous influence on the formation of both the literary and social image of the poet.
