Bed-cupboard. The mechanism and features

A wardrobe bed is the best solution for small rooms. Now this device is in great demand. After all, it is possible to place a wardrobe bed in a horizontal or vertical position (and thus save space in the room), the mechanism of which has several variations.

What is a wardrobe bed?

Unusual creation, which can be folded and be in a vertical or horizontal position, is called a “wardrobe bed”. The mechanism of such furniture works smoothly and silently, which will not disturb households. It is easy to control, it is equipped with all the necessary hinges, hooks and elastic bands, which you can grab to raise the berth. Such an invention has transformation mechanisms, which are the most important “organs” of furniture. After all, it was with their help that the bed quickly turns into an invisible wall, and then room space is freed up, for example, for children's games.

Bed wardrobe mechanism

The bed-cupboard can be embedded in the wall of the room or in a special niche. In addition, it has its own enclosure, in which the bed itself is folded, that is, a mattress and all the components of the bed.

This is an indispensable solution for small rooms or rooms. It folds easily, even a child can handle it. Therefore, after sleep, it can immediately be raised or pushed together with pillows and a blanket, and returned to its previous position immediately before bedtime. The mattress, pillows and blanket are securely fastened with the straps that are included in the kit, so when lifting they will not fall, and when lowering they will remain in place.

For the first time such a miracle was created by William Lawrence Murphy, so the first time he had the name "Murphy's bed." Only then, when the production began to develop and expand, did the Murphy bed begin to be called the usual name for us, “wardrobe-bed”, or “lifting bed”.

What are wardrobe beds?

They come in many forms. Here is the list:

  • with vertical folding;
  • with horizontal opening;
  • retractable;
  • built-in;
  • double;
  • single;
  • one and a half;
  • with a gas-lift mechanism;
  • with swivel wheels.

transformation mechanisms

This is not a complete list. Depending on what transformation mechanisms are on the product, the list goes on.

However, the choice of each depends on preferences, financial capabilities and footage of the room in which there will be a wardrobe bed. The mechanism is selected according to the principle of action and the arrangement of furniture in the room.

Transformation mechanisms

Let's look at the mechanism of the wardrobe-bed series MLA 108.1, MLA 108.2 and MLA 108.4.

They differ in that the first has a maximum dynamic load of 50, the second - 70, the third - 100 kg. The difference depends on which wardrobe-bed: single, one and a half or double.

The principle of operation is the compression force of the spring, which is made of hardened stainless steel and is mounted on the lifting rods of the accessories. Thanks to the special processing of steel, the service life of the wardrobe-bed is about 50 years. Lifting power depends on the number of springs it is equipped with. Such mechanisms most often have a lifting bed-closet, but it can also be with a load on the gas-lift mechanism.

The basis of the cabinet bed on the gas lift is that the load goes on it, thereby compensating for the weight of the base, which should recline. As well as the mechanisms mentioned above, products with a gas lift differ in load and are selected depending on the weight of the lifting base of the bed.

There are swivel legs especially for sliding horizontal or vertical wardrobe-beds. They rotate or extend 90 ° and are located on the back of the cabinet-bed.

Where and how can I put a pull-out or folding bed?

Often a sleeping place occupies the largest area of the room, so a wardrobe bed comes to the rescue. The mechanism is designed so that during the day the item can be "hidden" as if it were not there.

Mostly in one-room or multi-room, but small-sized apartments, a wardrobe-bed is purchased. A children's room is also equipped with such furniture, because, as a rule, children need a lot of space for games. In one-room apartments, in order not to clutter up the place with a sofa, transformer beds are also often installed. Buyers fully appreciated the benefits of this type of furniture.

A vertical bed can be bought separately and then placed in a compartment or closet with doors, which can be made to order, or you can pick it up by yourself. Such furniture in the apartment will become a reliable friend for many years.

The folding wardrobe-bed (transformer) can have a revolving design, for example, in the afternoon, when folded, it will turn into a mirror or a cabinet with hinged doors. So she looks prettier. Many furniture manufacturers carry out orders for individual projects: to the color of the rest of the interior, with or without LED lighting.

The body of the bed should be attached to a concrete or brick wall. Mounting on drywall is not practiced due to the weight of the product and the fragility of the base.

In the room or in the living room there may be a double folding wardrobe-bed or several single beds for a night's rest, built into one closet or wall. Completing beds can be with shelves or with a table, as well as with any other details.

The wardrobe-bed for children has a slightly different design. It is much lighter and easier to transform. This is done so that the child himself can lift / slide the wardrobe bed. The mechanism of a child’s model is most often a gas lift, because it is safer than a spring. A folding bed for children is also called an attic bed, because it can either be upstairs (at the bottom there is a case with shelves and a desk), or it can be pushed down, and on top there is a small playground or table.

Indeed, it is thanks to high-tech fittings that the housing issue is being resolved: “How to choose furniture so that there is as much space as possible for comfortable living?” Now such a bed can be purchased in stores and made to order.
