With the development of electronic document management and an increase in the number of office users, the company often faces the question of standardizing the formats of electronic documents that are used in the institution. In this sense, it is especially difficult for universities and colleges of various kinds, in which a lot of scanned scientific literature is stored in the form of DJVU.
Of course, this format is specially created for these purposes, but its prevalence leaves much to be desired. In any case, it would be better to translate DJVU to PDF. This will allow you to use much more simple and common programs in your daily work, which are already installed on the computers of most users.
What is this format?
In order for you to understand the need for such a conversion, you should learn a little about the format itself, which is the "stumbling block". As already mentioned above, it was created to digitize books and scientific manuals. Its advantage is its impressive compactness.
But there is one caveat: all this applies only to those cases where the quality of the output document does not matter much. For example, you can easily digitize and use in the future those manuals that have a lot of images and high-quality tables.
What is the reason for poor quality
That's just where more often you have to see digitized documents of terrible quality, in which it is almost impossible to make out anything. What is the reason for this? The thing is that in the DJVU format, the documents do not contain fonts. In fact, such a document is a kind of "advanced" image.
So converting DJVU to PDF will allow you to somehow improve the readability of books that have been converted to digital format without much enthusiasm.
How to convert?
A universal, simple and extremely compact program - DjView. It will allow you to convert even a voluminous document in just a few minutes. The disadvantage is that you cannot select PDF specifications. What specific type of format is used to convert at any given moment is unknown.
Virtual printer
This method will allow you to not only translate DJVU to PDF, but also save even the web page in the format you need. How to convert in this case? First, install novaPDF or a similar program. To open the document directly, we will use the WinDjView utility.
After installing the virtual printer and setting it up, you can open DJVU books. PDF is obtained after you send them to "print". Unlike the previous case, you can configure all the parameters of the output document. The conversion time completely depends on the characteristics of your computer, but about 10 pages are converted in 10 minutes.
Finereader
This application should be well known to domestic users, since for a long time it was it that was the only option for high-quality scanning of documents. Today, the program is already presented in its twelfth version, and its functionality has been radically expanded.
To convert DJVU to PDF, you must first run the application. The main window will appear, in which you should select the option “Image file in PDF”. A special utility dialog box opens , where the program needs to specify the path to the file, which must be converted to a more familiar format.
But there is one problem. Firstly, the application is paid. Secondly, its performance drops with the release of each new version. If your computer does not shine with performance, then the DJVU book 200-300 pages can "hang" it tightly.
And therefore, on weak machines and subject to a relatively small document, it is better to use the utility that is part of the same FineReader. This is a Screenshot Reader. The principle of its work is to recognize text from snapshots of pages that the program makes on its own. She consumes a minimum of resources, and the result is excellent.
STDU Converter
This utility will easily translate DJVU to PDF, without spending a lot of time on this process. Its advantage over competitors is not only free, but also in functionality quite comparable with them. So, you can translate not the entire document into the required format, but only some fragment of it, marking the corresponding pages with checkboxes.
Easiest option
The disadvantage of all the above applications is the fact that they are quite complex, and therefore it may not be so easy for beginners to understand them. A way out of this situation may be the Boxoft application. Its interface is as simple as possible. To convert, simply drag the document icon into the main program window, after which a similar file will appear in the same folder, but in PDF format.
When is it not worth converting?
We have already said what is the advantage of DJVU. In the case when the document has acceptable quality, and you intend to use it on a mobile device or through a cloud service, there is no reason for alteration.
