Lipetsk Airport was built in 1966. At this time, it was designed to serve no more than 100 passengers. In 2008, the airport received approval for servicing international passenger flights. However, the first international flight from Lipetsk to Milan took place after 7 years - in 2015.
Lipetsk Airport: reconstruction
The reconstruction and modernization of the airport throughout its history has been carried out repeatedly. Recent work on the reconstruction of the airport began in 2013. Their cost exceeds 1 billion rubles. Funds were allocated by the federal budget and the regional authorities. The project is implemented by the regional administration and the Ministry of Transport as part of the federal program for the development of the transport network of the Russian Federation.
The work involves the modernization of the terminal building, the extension of the runway, the erection of the building of a command and control center, the installation of a light-signal system for receiving aircraft in adverse weather conditions, and the construction of a new drainage system. In addition, it is planned to reconstruct the old and build new taxiways, including for special vehicles, build three aprons for aircraft with a large take-off mass, and prepare a site for the processing of airliners with anti-icing liquid.
At the moment, work is in its final stage. The runway has been completely reconstructed, a drainage system has been built, taxiway construction is nearing completion.

Air passengers can get to the airport by public transport - bus. Bus number 119 leaves from the building of the railway station:
