The Ulyanovsk Drama Theater has existed since the 18th century. Then the city was called differently - Simbirsk. The first performance of the theater was the comedy Pugachev Emelka.
Theater History
The Ulyanovsk Drama Theater was originally a serf. The troupe consisted of serfs landowner Nikolai Durasov. Performances took place in his huge two-story mansion. In 1785 N. Durasov presented his theater to the provincial nobility. Since then, productions have become regular. Since then, not only serf actors, but also noble people have been performing on stage.
In the 1830s, a wooden building was built for performances. Outwardly, it looked like a simple barn, inside the walls were upholstered with felt. In winter, iron stoves were installed there for heating. There were not many seats in the auditorium. There was no troupe in the theater. Each season, different artists performed. The repertoire was selected in accordance with censorship. On the stage of the Simbirsk Theater there were comedies, vaudevilles, dramas and excerpts from operas. In 1846, a new building was built. Funds for this were allocated by Governor M. Naumov. The building was simple but smartly built. The auditorium was designed for 400 seats.

During the war years, the troupe toured Ukraine. Then she spoke at the fronts in front of the fighters.
In 1965, the play β104 pages about loveβ was staged at the Ulyanovsk Theater. The production was carried out with the participation of a young then playwright, who is known to a wide audience as an essay historian. His name is Edward Radzinsky.
In subsequent years, the repertoire included productions based on plays by such authors as: W. Shakespeare, K. Goldoni, A. Tolstoy, A. Chekhov, J. B. Moliere, Lope de Vega, Figueired, C. Gozzi, Sartre and others.

For those who have not been here, the question arises: "Where is the drama theater (Ulyanovsk)?" His address is: Spasskaya Street, 12a. The doors of the theater are always open to regular and new audiences.
Building
The building appeared at the theater on November 3, 1879. The construction money was allocated by Mitrofan Pryanishnikov, a retired staff captain of the guard. The building is two-story, with an elegant facade, but at the same time modest. In feuilleton, his appearance was compared with the barracks. The scene was made huge, the orchestra pit spacious. The lodges in the auditorium were large, wide and hung on rails. The floor was asphalt. The halls and foyers were huge. There was even a private greenhouse. The hall was designed for 373 seats. An inscription in Latin was made on the curtain: Feci, quod rotui; faciant meliora potentes, - which in translation into Russian means βI did what I could; who can do better, let him do it. β
