Today we will consider a very interesting effect - the "old paper". You can use it everywhere - for example, to decorate an email or to create an exotic background for a photo. Of course, you can find a ready-made picture with the same background and use it. But we will independently produce an interesting image using the “old paper” effect. "Photoshop" in this case will be the only means that we need.
Instruction manual
We offer you step-by-step instructions for creating this effect. The old paper, which we will try to depict using modern technology, was used in ancient writings. For work, you can use any version of Photoshop. This manual is designed for users who do not have much experience with this resource. Therefore, for experienced users this information is likely to seem uninteresting.
- Create a new image with an arbitrary size. Using the Rectangular Area Tool (M), make a selection. It will designate the contours for the future sheet with old paper.
- Fill the selected area with any color. For this operation, use the Fill tool (G). As soon as this area gets color, deselect it with the "Ctrl + D" key combination.
- Apply a filter that creates the effect of "torn paper". To do this, open the "Filters" item (at the top of the program) and look for the item "Filter Gallery". Here we find the "Strokes" category and the "Spray" effect. We set the following values: spray radius - 10; softening - 5. Click "Ok."
- Delete the background. To do this, use the Magic Wand tool. Left-click on the area created in the second stage. So we have formed a selected area. Now invert the selection, right-clicking on the selected area, and find the item "Invert". Press the DEL key. After these actions, the background should disappear . The result is empty space.
- We reuse the filter that was used in the third step. Only with other values: spray radius - 20; mitigation - 15.
- Again, remove the resulting background. Repeat all steps starting from step 4.
- At this stage, the image with the effect of the "old paper" is almost ready. It remains to add a few nuances. In the context menu we are looking for the item “Overlay options”. In the new window we find the tab “Blend Color”. Here we choose the color. Turn on the item "Inner shadow." Enter the following values: overlay type - multiplication; black color; opacity - 45%; offset - 0; size - 50. Turn on the “External Shadow”, change only the “Size” parameter, where we put the number 9.
additional information
You can place an image with this effect in the background. The "old paper" with its outlines may be different depending on the selected color. If you used other values, then a completely different effect may result.
Conclusion
The image with the effect of "old paper", made according to the instructions provided, can be applied anywhere, wherever you want.
