On the forums of the global Internet, many users are unflattering about Microsoft software products - the very one that created the Windows, Skype, etc. operating systems. Sometimes there really are comments on the work of Microsoft applications.
However, developers seek to maximize the ease of use of their programs. Make them work out of the box: install and use, without having to make various additional settings. In most cases, this succeeds, although there are exceptions. For example,
setting up Skype is not only not prohibited, but even encouraged. This is what will be discussed in our article.
Everyone is familiar with the Skype program, which is a peculiar version of a videophone. Some simply heard about it, while others actively use it. Having an Internet connection, a webcam, a sound reproducing system and a microphone, you can fully communicate with distant interlocutors, and for free. With each subsequent version of the program, performance is getting better. For example, it is enough to download the distribution kit, install the application, register in the system and ... that's it.
However, if any failures occur, you may need to configure Skype. For example, webmasters using the famous Denver developer package are well aware of the warning displayed when it is installed, which indicates possible conflicts with Skype. Of course, in a state of neglect. Even recommendations are given on how to configure Skype. In this case, there is a conflict of the ports involved, which, fortunately, is corrected in a few clicks of the mouse.
Setting up Skype consists, first of all, in adjusting audio and video. Since there are a huge number of models of webcams and microphones that differ in their characteristics, the developers have provided the opportunity for the user to make the necessary changes to the program. For example, the processor of some cameras allows you to change the image brightness, contrast, turn on the backlight, etc. Although everything works by default, to use the special capabilities of the equipment, you need to configure a webcam in Skype.
To do this, after starting the program, select “Tools” in the top menu bar and proceed to “Settings”. Here everything is divided into sections, so difficulties with finding the right item usually do not arise. After clicking on the “Video Settings” link, a window appears where you can select the video broadcast mode: to all interlocutors or only to your favorites, whether to enable picture transmission for every call. But the “Webcam Settings” button opens a window in which you can make changes to
the device’s processor (not available for all models).
Skype sound settings are in the same section. The name of the item speaks for itself, therefore it is impossible to make a mistake. Here you can specify the desired recording device (microphone) and playback (speakers). It is recommended to leave the automatic tuning checkboxes - this allows you to use the adaptive tuning mechanism.
Sometimes Skype does not work due to a conflict with other programs (we already mentioned one of them). This is solved in the "Advanced" settings section. Here you should click on the “Connections” link and register any other port number or tick the alternative option.
