The Sovremennik Theater (on the Yauz) has existed since the mid-twentieth century. It was founded by young and enthusiastic actors. Today it is one of the most famous theaters in the country.
About the theater
The Sovremennik Theater (on Yauza) was founded by Oleg Tabakov, Galina Volchek, Evgeny Evstigneev, Oleg Efremov, Igor Kvasha and other graduates of the Moscow Art Theater School.
The basis of the repertoire from the first day of its existence and still consists of plays written by modern playwrights. Many of them were created specifically for the theater.
The first director of Sovremennik was Oleg Efremov. The troupe often travels around the country, and everywhere the actors are accompanied by a constant full house.
The main director of Sovremennik for many years is Galina Volchek. Thanks to her, plays that previously were unfamiliar to our viewer appeared in the repertoire. Of course, it cannot do without the eternal classics: N.V. Gogol, A.P. Chekhov, F.M. Dostoevsky and many other authors.
In fact, such a concept as "Contemporary" on the Yauz "does not exist. Since 2014, the theater, instead of its main stage, which is located at Chistoprudny Boulevard, house number 19A, temporarily works at another site - in the Palace on Yauza. This is due to the fact that the native scene of Sovremennik has been closed for major repairs since 2015.
During its creative life, the Sovremennik Theater (on the Yauz) survived many falls and take-offs. His address is Zhuravlev Square, house number 1.
As before, these days the theater very often goes on tour. It regularly happens not only in various cities of our vast Motherland, but also in other countries: in the USA, the Baltic States, Finland, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and many others.
The Sovremennik troupe has always worked with some of the best actors in the country. This trend has not changed today. Among the artists - a large number of stars that are known to a wide audience.
