"Fishki.net" is a humorous portal with a multimillion-dollar audience. The site has gained fame both in Russia and abroad, and is currently one of the largest entertainment-oriented resources in our country.
History of creation
The Fishka.net site was created in May 2004 by the programmer Alexander Rybak as a blog, where readers were given the opportunity to pass the hour or two after watching and commenting on the recordings proposed by the editorial staff. Already in 2006, Rybak very profitably sold the portal to RBC structures, after which Mikhail Gurevich, the head of a subsidiary of RBC Mediamir, became the owner of Fishki.net.
The resource has undergone significant changes in the hands of the new owner: by 2008 the site was "combed" - they refused to publish erotica and other dubious content, and in 2013 the resource was launched on a new platform, which significantly updated the Fishki.net brand itself.
Content
At the moment, the site’s content is quite diverse: funny pictures, photos, news, stories, collections, videos and gifs are all what users expect from an entertainment resource. The Fishka.net analogs use approximately the same material. It is noteworthy that the site has a particularly reverent attitude to posts of a political orientation: for the political content, a section called “Antipicks” was created, which even has some moderators from among the readers.
Another characteristic difference between Chips and other similar resources is the content on the main page. The materials that will become the “face” of the site are created by the editors, but most of the entries appearing on Fishka.net are either created by users or borrowed from other sites. To avoid conflicts with copyright holders, the publication of materials from some sites is limited or prohibited.
Lecture hall
The portal is actively expanding its audience: the materials of Chips are published not only on the main site, but also in the groups of the same name on the social networks Facebook and Vkontakte. In addition, the resource is equipped with a “karmic” system - for high-quality posts and comments the user receives “karmic points”, and trolling or spamming reduces their number. These karmic points give users prestige in the community, as well as some privileges. Such a system promotes both user motivation and moderation of site materials.
According to Gurevich, he seeks to make the site an adapted Russian version of the popular abroad resource BuzzFeed - one of the entertainment media with a huge audience and, in fact, an analogue of Fishka.net. At the moment, the site processes up to a thousand records per day, and the monthly unique audience is more than 10 million users. Most users of the resource are young and active people, so the materials on the site correspond to youth topics. However, Gurevich notes that the portal’s audience is “growing up” - website visitors are increasingly interested in topics such as family and children, tourism, cars and cooking. The editors of the site carefully make sure that the content is relevant, interesting and consistent with the corporate "chip" style.
The closest analogues to Fishka.net
In RuNet and beyond, there are a large number of sites similar in subject, structure and audience of the site. For example, the very popular resource "Picabu". The audience is a bit larger, but many find its interface more convenient. And what are the comments of users on it, which sometimes become winged phrases or “memes”.
Another well-known analogue of Fishka.net is Yaplakal. A very similar resource both thematically and in audience structure.
“Fishki.net” is one of the largest entertainment portals in Runet, with an established reputation and a devoted audience, open to new ideas and ready to change. All this makes the resource competitive and opens up new paths for development.
