Decorative salioli: home care, reproduction, photo

This gentle ornamental plant, oddly enough, is a relative of nettle. It was discovered by the navigator Soleirol in the 19th century. The name of this scientist is immortalized in the name of this plant. It is also called helksina.

This article presents a plant for saltworks. Home care is not particularly difficult. More on this later in the article.

It should be noted that some gardening enthusiasts see saltworm as a weed. However, many grow it at home. There are great advantages in it, besides decorativeness. Despite the apparent tenderness, this rather strong and hardy plant is able to tirelessly spread.

Before saltolysis will be presented in more detail (home care will also be considered), we will give general information about a plant growing in natural conditions.

general information

This plant is found in the wild on rocky, shady and humid areas of the islands of Corsica, Sardinia and Mallorca.

Soleoli: home care

This herbaceous creeping plant with very small leaves is perennial. Its stems with leaves grow quite rapidly and quickly, forming containers. They sprout in them, forming forms similar to beautiful openwork balls of saturated green color.

The leaves of small-diameter saliolysis (0.5 cm) have a rounded shape. Peduncles are single, small and not very attractive in appearance.

Design application

In ornamental horticulture, they are usually grown in flowerpots or in low pots similar to pans.

Due to the fact that salinity is a ground cover plant, it has a peculiar quality: when planting in the same pot with other large plants, salinolysis can soon completely cover the entire soil layer with its leaves. It looks great in any composition as a whole.

The flower, which (as noted above) is to some extent a relative of the common nettle, is a magnificent ornamental plant with an interesting name - salinola. Home care (a photo of it is presented below) is not very difficult, but there are some special points. It should be borne in mind that salinity can strangle stunted plants located nearby in the flower arrangement.

Features

Soleoli attracts not only with its decorative effect. It also has the following special qualities: it neutralizes harmful radiation from modern electrical appliances and office equipment; highly sensitive to the atmosphere of the room (it will not grow normally in gassed and smoked rooms).

The genus of salinolemia (gelksins) has one kind. This is Soleirolia soleirolii. Most often it is his bright green shiny leaves that are found. But breeders have bred more varieties of salinity:

  • argentea with silver leaves;
  • variegata with leaves with a thin snow-white border;
  • aurea with yellowish or golden foliage.

It should be noted that their varietal differences are well manifested in bright lighting.

Very quickly growing, the flower covers with a continuous carpet of greenery the entire surface of the soil in the pot and hangs beautifully with a light green canvas.

The flower growers artificially raised several more varieties of this plant, delicately decorated with leaves of other flowers: gold, silver.

When growing salinity, the appropriate temperature regime should be observed in the first place: in summer, the temperature should be no higher than 20 degrees Celsius; in winter - not lower than 10 degrees. In the summer, the flower prefers areas inaccessible to direct sunlight. In the winter, salt lighting needs more lighting.

Home care includes abundant watering only in spring and summer, and in winter, moderate hydration is necessary.

The best time for feeding is from March to September every two weeks. However, top dressing is not required in case of annual plant transplantation.

Corresponding humidity is also welcomed, for which it is necessary to spray the plant with warm water repeatedly during the day at air temperatures above 20 ° C and about once every 3 days at temperatures below this value.

As you can see, salt production is not so difficult. Home care, reproduction - all this is available even for beginner growers.

Transplantation and reproduction

Transplantation is practically not required for saliolysis, but if necessary, you can do this at any time of the year, but preferably into wider dishes.

For propagation, it is enough to separate from the old plants a couple of small lumps of earth containing the stalks of the main mother plant and place them on a previously prepared (with a moistened substrate filled) bowl. Very soon, the green tender leaves of salinity will again cover the entire surface of the pot soil.

Conclusion

Virtually no pests are the plants of salinolysis. Home care, in addition to the above actions, involves the fight against some other possible difficulties.

  1. Withering, drying and dying of deciduous cover. A possible cause is dry air in the room.
  2. The plant ceases to grow, the stems stretch and the leaves turn pale. The reason is a lack of minerals in the soil or a lack of light.
  3. The appearance of brown silvery spots. The plant was exposed to the sun.
