About the theater
The Chamber Theater (Cherepovets), whose history goes back to the mid-19th century, considers July 1, 1993 to be its date of birth. At first there was an amateur troupe in the city, which included noble gentlemen. The professional theater was opened in 1938. But after 10 years it was closed and did not exist until the end of the 20th century. And only in 1993 did its revival begin. Today the theater has its own building, which was overhauled 10 years ago. It is equipped with modern equipment. The hall can accommodate up to 438 spectators.
The theater has a children's studio. The troupe actively participates in various festivals, goes on tour. Theater History

In 1993, the Chamber Theater (Cherepovets) was opened. The Vologda Oblast has long been waiting for this event. The first theater in the city of Cherepovets appeared in the 60s of the 19th century. He was an amateur. By 1899, the amateur theater grew into a music and drama circle. Then the production of the drama "Boris Godunov" took place. In the same year, the circle turned into the Theater of the Cherepovets Guardianship of sobriety. The repertoire included not only dramatic, but also musical performances. At the beginning of the 20th century, the production of Mikhail Glinka's opera Life for the Tsar was staged. The actors were: a doctor, the wife of a court adviser, a prosecutor, a lawyer, a millionaire, a lawyer, princes, the leader of a female gymnasium, etc. In 1919, professional artists joined the amateur troupe. The theater received its own building, in which it lives today. During his creative life, he underwent several reorganizations. Its name has changed. And in 1948, the government stopped financing all theatrical troupes, transferring them to self-sufficiency. As a result, a year later the Cherepovets Theater worked out its last season, ceased to exist and was closed for a long 40 years.
Chamber Theater (Cherepovets) was revived in 1993. Although the official order to resume his work was signed only in 1998. In the same year, Tatyana Makarova was appointed chief director. The troupe of the revived theater presented its first production to the public in November 1997. It was a musical performance “The Stormy Days of Garunsky”, based on the play of Lev Zorin. This production was unique in that the director Tatyana Makarova performed one eight roles in it. At that time, there were only two actors in the troupe: Tatyana Makarova and Fedor Ghukasyan. The performance is attended by jazz musicians. This production is still in the theater’s repertoire and is very popular with the viewer. The second performance was the comedy "Country Romance" based on the play by B. Razer and V. Konstantinov. Its premiere took place in 2000. This performance was a social order. And “Stormy days of Garunsky”, and “Country romance” looked almost the whole city.
The landmark performance was the Matriarchy. This is a theater experiment. In this production, all roles, even female ones, are performed exclusively by male actors. The set design of "Matriarchy" is amazing and even shocking. The performance uses lighting effects, the emotional coloring is provided by ballet and video. The production won the grand fund of Soros.
A major role in the life of the theater was played by the meeting of director T. Makarova and playwright V. Borovitskaya. The play "Varvara Petrovna", staged on her play, provided the theater with tours in Moscow. The capital met the production with full halls.

Building reconstruction
